Hello,
Ive been noticing recently that my w204 (106K km) c250 coupe has been having some issue with long crank mostly on cold start and sometimes on warm starts as well.
Additionally, what's more concerning is that after the long crank starts, there is a noticeable rattle for a couple seconds that sounds like a Diesel engine that goes away after the first few seconds
Ive attached a YouTube like to the starts - the diesel-like rattle starts immediately after the car turns on and ends right before the seatbelt beeping starts
Is this an issue with the timing chain/chain tensioner/ and/or camshaft adjusters? if so, what is the estimated costs for such repairs?
If anyone else has any ideas of what may be going on, id greatly appreciate your advice and suggestions.
Thank you all in advance
EDIT: there seems

It seems that since digital entred the motoring world, manufacturers make impressive engines at 1st glance, but struggle to get them reliable.

I would recommend to get your timing chain checked asap.
Most likely it will be elongated which might cause severe damage to the engine when ignored.
The starting difficulties might result from the chain having jumped already compromising the valve timing.

Spb147-
You already know about the camshaft adjuster thread. But don’t neglect the fact that the timing chain can cause similar symptoms and much more severe damage. If I understand correctly, you don’t have a DTC yet. One chain link will cause enough timing error to set one. I drove mine for a few weeks before DTC and CEL made the cause obvious but who knows, maybe I was lucky. There is no easy, inexpensive way to check the timing chain health on the W271. The valve cover needs to come off which will cost around $300 just for diagnostics.

Yes! Sorry i created these new threads before i stumbled upon your post about the extended warranty on the camshaft adjusters !
my CEL came on yesterday and i checked that its the p034062 fault code - ive booked an appointment with my dealership -
Can the camshaft adjusters be perfectly fine but my problem is a result of the stretched chain or a faulty tensioner?
and in that case will the dealership charge me for the diagnostics after they check that the camshaft adjusters are fine?
I’m a little worried about that

Odd Piggy-
Can the camshaft adjusters be perfectly fine but my problem im experiencing is a result of the stretched chain and/or a faulty tensioner?
If that is the case, will the dealership charge me for the diagnostics after they check that the camshaft adjusters are fine?
or will the diagnostics be covered when they see the fault code p034062 that i currently have?
thanks again

share this with the service manager. It’s all over this site on other threads. Your camshaft adjusters are faulty engineered trash that’s the problem.

Thank you for this!
I noticed that the letter mentions only the adjusters
i hope that they at least dont charge me for diagnostics and ideally repair even if my adjusters seem fine and the root cause of problems are the chain and/or tensioner
Thanks again!

it’s a Mercedes’ they will charge you for breathing the air in the workshop. They failed to make you a quality engineered product, tell them you won’t pay for anything. Extended warranty is proof they failed us all.
