After two weeks of use of the RoadTop CarPlay - wired and wireless - I experienced a problem yesterday. The entire screen went blank. I could not toggle back and forth between CarPlay and the OEM head unit. I could press the radio and hear audio as a result. But the display refused to come on. OEM reverse camera did not come on. I tried locking and unlocking the car, but did not do a Comand reset. So I left it overnight, thinking that I would need to dismantle the dash again just to check the connections.
This morning the system started up just fine - display perfect, wired and wireless CarPlay working, OEM working, all systems go.
Are others experiencing this sort of intermittency? Is there a recommended set of actions, short of opening up the dash and rechecking connections? Could it be unrelated to the RoadTop unit and instead the result of the radio fuse?
Please share your horror stories, your successes, and any other things that I can try in order to make this system more reliable.

When that happens, just switch your phone to airplane mode and then back. That should reset the wifi, bluetooth, and network (wired) connections.

I may not have expressed this well, but the *entire* display of the head unit - whether or not CarPlay was toggled on - was off. That's what alarmed me, because I was concerned that the wiring might not be sufficiently tight. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't behind the dash...

I understood what you said. The display goes black. Do what I said and let me know if that doesn't work.

I’m starting to have this issue in my W212. I can however switch to the MB head unit no problem. But ya, switching to CarPlay results in a blank screen. Noticed this only happens when it’s warm outside and the car has been parked outside. It seems to come back once the a/c has been running inside the vehicle for sometime. I suspect an overheating issue?

I had this issue when I installed my Road Top module. However I was also able to toggle back to the comand screen. I contacted Road Top and they send me a software update that fixed the problem.
A few months later I had the exact same issue as OP. After the car sat turned off for a couple hours, it worked normally again. This happened only once and hasn't happened again.
Like @CZ 75 noticed and pointed out above, I also noticed before and after the update is that it happened in relatively hot weather, especially when the car had been sitting in the sun or had been running for a while. This leads me to believe that the Car Top unit is sensitive to heat.
Another thing, when I installed the unit, I sandwiched it between the comand unit and the glove box, resting on the transmission hump. I relocated it behind the glove box and it greatly minimized those occurrences.
