Identical issue
My problem mirrors yours, exactly. My EIS failed Thanksgiving Eve. Kept car home until I Towed to MB dealership January. 10th, 2023. Tomorrow is July 1st, 2023. still no car. Insanity. Hope you get good news soon.
2009 C300...towed on Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving 2022) to a local foreign repair business we have used many times before. Cannot get part as only available for repair at MB dealership. So it was sent out for re-built which they said they had done before. Well after 2 different times of trying, the car was towed to a MB dealership. They had it for several weeks and when I questioned about a loaner they wanted us to tow it back home since there was no ETA for the part. So now we have a car that has been out of commission since November 23, 2022 and no date when it will be driveable (now its June 2, 2023). I feel that MB should not charge us for the repair...we should get some compensation.

7 months without a car because of misdiagnosis is more than an inconvenience. You deserve some compensation.
At least it seems that there are some EIS parts becoming available for MBs of this generation. It’s getting harder to repair MBs that are getting older. For example, W163 ML owners are beginning to junk their cars because ignition parts are no longer being made. The low volume of theses cars has not attracted any aftermarket suppliers to tool up and make parts.

This is the car involved
I have a W204 C350 2010 274,000 km and have had an emulator installed preventively.
There are many indy shops to solve these MB ESL ans EIS problems here in Europe.
Costs € 300 in total

I don’t know how similar the W211/R171 EIS is to the one in the W204, but maybe it would be an alternative to waiting 7-9 months. That is, if you have, or could find someone who has, expertise in electronic repairs. It’s much more involved than a parts replacement.

I know,but my car is 13yrs old and I don't mind my steering lock is not working anymore.
It's a pita that you're not able to use your own car and get stranded for many months.
Emulator needs to be programmed with EIS ,but I'm glad I did this.
Never afraid if the ESL is malfunction again.
Mercedes doesn't care about you,all they wanna do is write and collect the bill.

Car was up and running in 2 days, they also did a steering lock eliminator for us.
