Leaking fluid

Hello all my 2011 c300 sport just started leaking some sort of fluid from the front right lower control arm. I was reading some other forums and another person had that issue but someone said the control arms have no fluid in them. I also went to a mechanic who stated these have something called hydraulic fluid in them but he sounded like he didn’t know what he was talking about. Is it possible there is fluid leaking from there?

I do think they are filled with fluid, called hydro bushings. From the photo I can see some tears in the rubber. I believe that bushing can be replaced, or replace the entire control arm.

To my knowledge, which is limited, the engine mounts have fluid in them, but the bushings for control arms should be solid rubber. I would look up your part on FCPEuro.com and see if there is a comment there about fluid filled bushings.

I think you are showing us the upper control arm according to the pictures on FCPEuro's website. Regardless, I'm pretty sure they are hard rubber bushings. (Motor mounts are fluid filled.)

Are you able to take a crowbar and move the control arm? If they were fluid filled and leaking, you should have a lot of play in the bushing. If the control arm doesn't move, then the leak is coming from somewhere else.

How did you find this? Was there knocking in your suspension going over bumps?

i saw some fluid and looked around the car and saw the control arm had the fluid on it. As far as knocking goes there is a very noisy creaking sound when I turn any side I don’t think it’s the struts since I had those replaced less than a year ago. I will try to move it and see what the control arm does.

The parts diagram refers to the bushings as hydromount struts. makes me wonder if they are fluid filled.

FCP blog talks about how control arm factory bushings are commonly filled with fluid.

Good find. I know the bushings on the control arms on my 2004 SL500 were solid rubber, while the engine mounts were fluid filled. I stand corrected and learned something new. Still, he should check for play in his suspension.

This past winter I had a loud squeek on the passenger side, I could replicate it just by pushing down on the hood while standing next to the wheel. Then when jacking it up it sounded like it was coming from the top of the strut. I squirted silicone spray everywhere, lifted up the plastic covering on the strut and sprayed in, even stuck the straw of the spray can in the openings of the plastic cover of the strut at the top of the strut tower. Didnt do much. But, come warmer weather it went away. Whenever I have the wheel off im always spraying down the bushings with silicone spray, cant hurt the rubber.

I will say that the multiple parts for item 110 (bushing) is confusing. The part starting with A203 replaced the one below it. Usually, the first three numbers indicate the model, which would be the previous generation to the W204. I wonder if Mercedes found too many of the fluid filled bushings failing and went back to rubber only.
