Fuel filter

Anyone changed their fuel filter/pump before? Vehicle is clocking close to 142k now and wondering if I need to replace it. Manual says 140k or 15 years.

226k miles, 17 years this December. Original fuel pump, no codes, +/- 0% fuel trims, so equally interested in this topic.

I have not yet. I have a 2010 C300 4matic sport with M272. Maintenance manual says 150,000 miles which my car just recently hit. Unfortunately the filter is part of the pump inside the gas tank. I dont plan on getting rid of the car anytime soon so it is on my list for spring/summer. When I was playing around with a Mercedes specific scanner I got I checked fuel pressure and it was reading what it should be at, car seems to run great, so I figure it can wait a bit. Looks like its easy enough for diy, so wont be that much to replace.

Dealer wants $1259 to change the filter/pump assembly. They told me they only have done a few of them as majority of the vehicles that age don't see the light of the stealership anymore so when one gets replaced it is like a big deal in the service department as it becomes a lunch & learn event for them. The car is running great but I am not sure if this is one of those "fix when only broken" event rather than a preventive maintenance. I do however will be doing the front and rear differential fluid replacement which MB says "lifetime".

I will say that if the filter would cost me $1259 to replace I would not do it until it needs it. But since I dont mind working on cars, I even enjoy it, and the filter itself costs around $130 I see no reason for me not to do it. Im a little surprised they say to change it 150,000 and not sooner. I was also surprised to see no recommendation for replacing the differential fluids, in my manual its noted just for the AMG models for the rear. I already did the front and rear differentials, its was easy. I dont know if they were ever done previously but I will say the oil that drained out did look good, surprisingly good. I replaced it with Febi 75W85 GL5 since I can pick it up locally for a good price and it has the Mercedes specific approval on the label. I wouldnt do it every year but can see doing it when doing the transmission fluid. I recently replaced leaking oil filter housing gaskets so I was able to cross off replacing the coolant at the same time.
