I realize I need to address this situation sooner rather than later. Currently, I've a solution using sticky seat repair tape, but I'm considering whether purchasing a seat cover from eBay or Amazon. Removing the seat cover appears relatively straightforward, requiring just the removal of two torx screws. This means that if the aftermarket seat cover and reverting to the original cover or trying another inexpensive option shouldn't be of much difficulty.
However, the original cover repair by an upholstery shop right now because the sticky tape I've used could complicate matters. Do you have any suggestions on how best to proceed?
Here's the one I'm thinking of
Just get the whole seat bottom from eBay. Take note of the exact interior code. Passenger seat will fit into driver if you remove the occupancy sensor bracket (not the sensor itself), and driver seat will not work for the passenger side because of the absence of said sensor.
This is the route I took, and bought a passenger seat for the driver since they're in better shape. And if that's mbtex, a bar of magic eraser will get that looking like new.
Here's an update.
I bought the driver side seat cover from an upholstery place in Texas. It's made out of leather.
I wish it could be a little snug but overall very satisfied with the product.
So, to make the new seat bottom cover fit sung, I added an 1" foam cushion and the seat is more comfy and hopping it contours and breaks in slowly to right shape.
I had to remove the seat bottom again and improvise.
The snap in plastic did not stay secured with the metal track in the seat.
So, bought some clips, that helped but decided to drill holes and use hog rings to hold them.
