I bought this 2010 and when I go to open the hood, I pull the release lever inside to pop it open, and only one side releases. I pulled a little harder on the lever, but no luck and I didn't want to break it. Ideas?

Likely a broken release cable or corrosion on that side. Possibly accessible through the grill, but could require substantial disassembly. I'd consult an experienced mechanic -- maybe there's a way to slim-jim it without having to tear apart the front end.

Is it one cable from the release handle to the two latches?

I think the release lever has a single cable that bifurcates at some point and each side is served by a separate cable. If a broken cable, it's impossible to say where the break might be, but I would think most likely it's at the release catch. You might try pushing down on the stuck side of the hood while someone pulls on the release lever to see if that releases it.

Which side pops up?

I would have someone pull up on the hood as someone works the lever inside the car, may just be stuck.

One cable runs from the release lever to a box, which connects to two different cables, one for each side.

yellow arrow goes to release lever:

Ok thanks for the suggestions. I'll get back to the car early this week. Battery is dead and can't jump it to at least get it home to work on.

Left side free. Tried to move the right side while someone pulled on the release handle, but nothing. Might have to sacrifice the grille.

Did you also try pushing down on the right side while pulling on the release lever? The catch mechanism is a hook and might be out of alignment such that it doesn't release because the hood is already pulling upward.

Yes for 10 minutes. Is this accessible from under the car like the E class here?

That's a great video that shows the latch mechanism and cable operation. Regarding access, I can't say -- you'll have to remove some front end parts and see where you end up.
