No gear display, no start

No gear display, no start
Hello All,
I am suffering from quite an unusual problem on my 2011 W204 C200 CDI
i was on the motorway driving as usual, normal engine sounds nothing extraordinary.
suddenly i realise i have no gear display, it does not say that i was in drive or anything.
at an attempt to reset this, i shift from D into N, then from N into D.
unfortunately, the car would not want to shift back into D on the instrumental screen and I could not drive any longer. I turn off the vehicle on the hard shoulder then try to turn it on, but to my luck it did not want to start, even though ignition was on as usual, no crank or anything.
does anybody know what could it be or steps I could take in order to diagnose or try and fix this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you all.

You can use an MB compatible scanner to confirm this diagnostic under 10mn.
