It just started raining in SoCal and I think my rain sensor is broken.
Turning the wiper setting to the first two settings - indicated by the dots - the wipers only wipe once and do not wipe again. It should be using the rain sensor to automatically wipe based on the amount of rain.
Turning the wiper setting to the next two settings - indicated by the lines - the wipers will continuously wipe - function seems fine.
If I push the button on the stalk, the wipers wipe once. If I fully depress the button, it will wipe and spray water on the windshield - again, function seems normal.
I'm Googling to see what could be broken here. Saw some stuff about fuses, but from what I'm reading the wipers shouldn't work at all if the fuse was an issue. Any tips on how to troubleshoot?
The part is described as a rain and light sensor (A2049014504) but I think my auto headlights are working just fine - not 100% sure on that though.
I dont have the manual for 2014. Im reading the 2010 for mine and it says if there is an issue with the sensor the wipers should still function in timed cycles according to vehicles without (345) Rain sensor.
I would scan the car and see if there are any faults for the wipers.
The rain/light sensor is one component. It’s under the cover behind and above the rearview mirror. You haven’t had your windshield replaced, have you? If so, the rain sensor should have been recalibrated by the shop that did it. If not, you could try to perform an adaptation on the rain sensor with a Mercedes dedicated scanner after disconnecting and reconnecting the power/signal wire.
As previously mentioned, a scan of the car should show if there are any communication or other failure codes.
BTW - Leave the key in the house until you need it because if the car wakes up, it powers the sensor.
