ESP Issue

Hello, I replaced my esl with an emulator and had to remove the steering column in the process. I’m now getting the code c124500 after everything is put back together. I tried reinitializing the sas but it does nothing and my esp is off. The live data says the steering angle is at -720,720. Here are some images. Any insight would be highly appreciated, thanks.

Im not 100% but its possible if you had the column out that the steering wheel was rotated and damaged the clock spring. I would read up on how to test that. Also delete all the codes and see which ones come back. I assume you disconected the battery while doing this so i dont think you cooked any modules. With Xentry its easier to see that N80 control module. If your scanner will do it take a look at that module.

Searching around for that code I came across this thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...sor-codes.html

In live data does the steering angle change when you turn the wheel, or just stay at the 720 reading?

What exactly did you do to remove the steering column, did you remove the steering module? Were you following the manual?

If removing the steering module I see two notes. One about the red safety catch and one about the circlip.

I rechecked the live data and when turned very left it’s at around 270 and when centered it says invalid. I took out the whole steering column at the u shaft/joint or whatever’s it’s called.

I deleted the codes but they come back instantly so not sure what to do.

Im guessing you have damaged the steering sensor or clock spring. If you take the column apart at the joint and you can now turn the wheel too far and damage components. You should research which components could be damaged in your column. You dont tell your model and engine combo so i got nothing for you there. But you defiantly messed up something in the column.

Fixed

I ended up fixing the issue. I removed the steering wheel and found the clockspring was turned a 2 rotations right more than it needed to be. I followed this video to recenter it
. Esp went off after about a minute of driving after recentering.

Nice that you got it figured out. That problem had showed up a few different times.
