Power steering fluid change every 2yrs

Back in May 2024 I had bought a 1l container of the Pentosin CHF 11S power steering fluid to swap out with the old power steering fluid in my 2010 W204. I have no idea if the power steering fluid had ever been changed previously. Car had around 150,000 miles at that time.

I didnt want to mess with disconnecting any hoses and risk breaking something or causing leaks. Instead I simply sucked out as much fluid out of the power steering fluid reservoir with a large meat syringe and filled with new fluid. I did this once a day until i went thru the 1l.

Heres what the new fluid and then the old fluid looks like:

Photo below looks like green new fluid floating on top of brownish old fluid. Cant remember exactly how I got this to happen.

Now 2yrs later I came across a good price for the Pentosin CHF 11S again so picked another one up. Just started and noted the condition of the old fluid. Looks a brownish color compared to the greenish new fluid color. It has a smell to it where the new fluid really doesnt have an odor or at least I cant pick anything up. Its a cloudy day unfortunately so the colors may be different with the lighting. I put some old and new fluid in cups to see side by side.

Not sure what this tells me other than the obvious color change. I was expecting the old fluid to be more greenish or at least was hoping. I'll finish up replacing the 1l container then see how the fluid looks.

I need to check mine. I think it has probably never been done in the last 12 years. I’ve got a big container of the CHF 11S stuff from when I had my 2004 SL500 with ABC suspension.

Do you happen to know which hose is the supply/feed line and which is the return?

Thanks!

The fluid travels from the reservoir into the power steering pump. Then it goes to the steering rack, from there it goes into the cooler then back into the reservoir.

I've seen people disconnect the hose from the cooler to the reservoir and stick another hose onto the end of the cooler and catch the oil fluid that way.
