is this the feature that automatically parks the car for you? if i understand correctly, it can be added individually ($970) without having to add the driver assist package?

can anybody tell me if this information is accurate and also tell me more about the feature? thanks

thanks for the video. i saw a video recently where the driver was demonstrating it on the w205 c class and claimed that she wasnt braking at all. meaning that the car was parking itself ENTIRELY unassisted (except for the driver switching between reverse/drive)

do you know if the feature has been upgraded for the 2015 model year? in the video above the woman clearly states that she is controlling the braking manually. i am wondering if the 2015 C class not only steers, but BRAKES itself also.

if you still have to control braking manually, then i might delete the option as i dont see much use for it.


edit: in these videos the drivers both state that they are not controlling the brakes manually, and that the car is braking itself



does this also mean that the car drives itself as well as brakes itself? or do you still have to manually control the foot pedals while it is steering itself? i am only interested in this feature if the ONLY thing i have to do is switch between putting the car in drive and reverse on the shifter.

 

pretty amazing...I personally wouldn't trust electronics THAT much though. things can flash, beep, etc. but I would inherently always be on the lookout "manually" at all times. I don't see why, if it's that advanced, why the system can't switch between drive and reverse also. if that's the only decision you're making, it's just gonna stop until you switch gears. it should know that the next "move" is to switch back to reverse or drive

if the feature were on the car i was driving, of course i'd try it out! i just don't know how much to trust it, or what it's worth if it worked perfectly every time for the life of the car.

the video i posted was a CLS I believe. the parktronic feature must be a little more advanced (in the 2015 C300/400 vs the whatever year CLS video I posted), because the video I posted they had to use the brake and gas pedals.

the video you posted are "right-drive" models, insinuating european models of some sort, so I don't think we'll know what the US is getting until it gets here.

 

that is a good point, but thats a very tough decision. i will need to finalize my order in the coming weeks and need to know if i should add/delete certain options. i dont want this feature if its not fully automatic. if its the way it is from the CLS video you posted then i will delete it.

 

It's really an option for women !!!

 

just an aside, parktronic is the name for the distance sensors that beep at you. Active parking assist is the one that parks for you

I have this on my W205 but dare not try it. Not sure how close I would dare let the car get before I panicked and hit the brakes The salesman where I bought it from said bring it back and he would set up a parking space and I could try it for as long as I wanted

 

It can automatically scan a parking place.
Put my gear in reverse and it asks for assistance 'yes or no'.
I've to change gears my self(front and back) It only gives me a signal for changing gear.
I've also to break by myself.
When ignoring the signals then it's turned off.

 

I tried it when I bought it, it told me to select forward or reverse but it did take over the steering but cant remember whether I braked or the car did

 

It is recommended to gas and brake, but the car does it by it self also, but very slow. Times I haven't hit the brakes, it brakes. If you push the gas and brake yourself, parking is twice as fast.

Just used it again. But the car doesn't break by itself! Only signals en sounds.

 

My W205 brakes for you. At first I didn't trust it but now I've got used to it it applies the brakes. I have noticed on some inclines I have had to touch the accelerator to get some power to start moving.

It's pretty good for getting in tight spots, but a downside is it fits you directly in-between the gap, so if one car if parked askew it does the same for you.

Also meant to say that sometimes it finds a spot but thinks it is a parallel space, and there is no option I can see to change it to bay. But I guess if there are two free spaces adjacent to each other it's easy enough (and quicker) to do it manually.

 

PARKTRONIC is an electronic parking aid with ultrasonic sensors. It monitors the area around your vehicle using six sensors in the front bumper and six sensors in the rear bumper. PARKTRONIC indicates visually and audibly the distance between your vehicle and an object. PARKTRONIC will not park the car for you!

 

My 2015 C300 with active park assist steers and brakes by itself. My only input is to select drive or reverse when prompted by the system. It will parallel park or back into a perpendicular parking spot. It will also steer and brake when exiting the parking space.

 

I don't think there is an option to change it. But why would you use it anyway in that case. Perhaps for fun?

Just a tip for all:

The car can also drive itself out from parallel parking spaces. Just select reverse gear once you have started the engine and after that press OK and let it drive you out from the tight space. It's very smooth.

 

Just about all of the MB's have the active version of parktronic. The car does the steering itself because all of the cars now have electromechanical steering no longer hydrolic steering. On every model you have to work the brake pedal and gas pedal.
