What do we officially know about the I4 Turbo in the C300? Is it simply an update to the M271? Or is it a completely new engine? How long has it been in service (in Europe or anywhere else included)?

I wonder if anyone has any concerns about it. I know it took YEARS for MB to get the M271 perfected (even newer Evo versions aren't perfect). Are we thinking the new C300 I4 Turbo will have at least decent timing chains, turbo sets ups, and good DI/EGR set ups?

Any links to tech specs and opinions are appreciated.

One thing I noticed from a youtube video review of a European W205 C250 was that they said 0-62 mph was 6.6 seconds. I have also seen several posts indicating that the C300 0-60 time was also 6.6s (including a few on bimmerfest.com alluding to why the 328i was so much better). Is there any "more official" word on this? Also does anyone know why the C250 is seeing the same or slightly better numbers here?

Now I know that 0-60 times are not what almost everyone makes them out to be. However, it does seem a bit odd that a car with all that torque coming in at about 1200 rpm along with 240ish HP has a relatively slow time. Not to mention the similarities with the C250.

You mean relative to the 328? Gearing is going to play a large role here. The 328 has an 8-speed auto and the C300 has a 7-speed auto. The more gears you have, the more opportunity you get for ideal gear ratios, but at the same time you are going to have more shifting while out driving in the real world. It's not simply black and white. Drive both cars the way you drive your own and decide which fits your preferences better.

The C250 is probably slower though, right? In the U.S., we only get the C300 and C400. I imagine the Euro C250 is a lower tune than the U.S. C300, right?

Not to be confused with U.S. C250 W204 that I have with OLD M271 engine.

I don't see how its possible for the old C250 to be faster than the new C300. The numbers don't support it.

No the euro c250, which I assume is the same as our South African version, has the same engine as the c200. C300 is not yet released here, and has a new engine. Yeah it's weird that the C300 has a similar o-60 as the c250.

I'm confused - why are people comparing the W204 C250 to the W205 C300? And why would anyone put the W205 C250 (not sold in U.S.) up against the F30 328i?

In the U.S., the C300 will go against the 328i. And the C400 will go against the 335i.

I am noticing that pretty much all the new DI engines are the same. BMW's N20 in the 328i, MB's new 2.0, Audi's new 2.0 EA888, and Volvo's 2.0 Drive E are all nearly identical in spec and size. (Again, as offered in U.S.).

Hopefully MB will provide technical details on the new 2.0T in the C300.

Not sure how the w204 came up in here, but i was comparing the European w205 C250 with the W205 c300 (and the 0-60 times were slightly in favor of the lower hp engine). And my question was is this right and if so what's up with that.

While I agree that the comparison with the 328 is an obvious and interesting comparison and I agree that the transmission will have a lot to do with it (more on that in a later). I meant relatively slow in comparison with the Euro w205 C250.

Im sorry I brought up the old C250 but it doesn't matter as the W204 and W205 C250 have the same engine, the 204hp

This is not true for Europe. Here the W204 C250 had the old M271 while the W205 C250 has the new M274 which was basically introduced in 2012 in the A250 / B250. This engine has a lot more displacement (2.0 liter vs. 1.8 liter) and is way more fuel efficient.
