Linguatronic

There is a button on the steering wheel with a man talking as shown below. The manual states that this starts Linguatronic and to refer to the dedicated manual (none was provided).

When I press the button, it takes me straight to voice commands for the satellite navigation which seems to work very well. However, there seems no option to issue voice commands for other items within the car.

I have looked at some Mercedes videos online and researched various official and unofficial Mercedes sites which discuss Linguatronic and they all state that I should be able to issue voice commands to control the radio, the phone and even the climate control. Have Mercedes excluded this functionality by design or do I have a faulty model? I find it hard to believe that on a car with so much technology that they excluded a feature which has been standard on their other models for at least 10 years.

Thanks. I expected a little more from premium brands like Mercedes when value brands are offering this stuff as standard.

Then why not look into stuff like this before you bought a Merc?

Thanks for that - really helpful. I did do my research beforehand and the brochure mentioned voice command but didn't go into detail about what could be controlled. When buying a premium vehicle, I took it for granted that it would be standard as it is on many value Korean cars. If anything, the brochure should make it clearer.

I really cant understand things like this,
every week I listen to people complaining to me that this and that should have been in their pricey new Mercedes,
For most of us a car is the second most expensive thing we ever buy,
with this in mind I really cannot understand how anyone can open their wallet that wide not knowing what they are actually buying?

Have you tried to just say 99.1 FM or some FM radio channel in your region?
The Command goes to the default menu you are currently in so what is listed may not be all the options you have. It says you currently drive W205 C220 Premium 1, if you have Voice Navigation you have voice command then you should have radio control as well....I believe.

While its true that other Brands offer similar technology in there vehicles as standard, you have to remember that it all started on these premium luxury brands first, years ago with lots of R&D $$$ to perfect it to where others can replicate it at a lower price.
So while its easy for you to say its available on Korean brands, they did not invent the technology. You are driving one of the innovation leaders in the automotive industry and at the end of the day you did choose Mercedes over the competition.

I have yet to try this in the new c class, but in my W204, if you are on the navigation screen, then pushing that button will prompt you for voice commands related to navigation. If you manually change the screen to radio screen, then the voice commands will be for the radio

It will do more if you have Comand; but only navigation if you have the more basic audio 20/Garmin combination. I had Comand in my w203 and could use voice/linguatronic to control radio/cd/phone and a help function ...
