Break in period

Hi guys. 2 schools of thought here. Either follow manufacturers recommendations or use a hard break in. I have tried both in the past and favour the hard break in. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

no need for the both, engines are from the factory already broken in (the hard way). Apart from that Mercedes recommends a gentle usage during the first 1000 to 2000 km's. Always follow the manufacturer's advice, just to make sure that warranty is not voided by driving like a fool (since this is logged in your car's memory, and stored at MB every time you have it in in for service)

The most important consideration would be to not drive hard until the engine has had a chance to be fully warmed up.

Most manufacturers recommend some sort of a break-in period, but I've never seen any documentation that would indicate that there's any real benefit to that practice. I do take it easy for the first 1,000 km or so with any new car, but that's more for my own peace of mind than anything else.

Is it recommeded to change oil after the first 1,000 km? If so, both motor and gearbox?

I was reading the manual....there is a 1500 km break in period. They say you should vary the speed, but don't push the engine too hard. If you are manual shifting don't rev higher than 2/3 of redline. Also don't floor the throttle to the point that the Max throttle button is pushed
