I'm in Houston and I ordered a black c400, completely loaded. Won't be available until late January. This car lured me away from the four-rings.

Nice. Which dealer in Houston did you go to? And what sort of discounts did you get?

MB of Houston North. No deal struck yet. When it arrives we'll discuss price.

I can tell you that they're selling very well at that dealership. But haven't seen any on the road, lol.

Since no deal was struck are you obligated to buy it? I never knew they let you order a car with no guarantee of you buying.

You should've nevotiated at the time of order. If the cars are selling so well at the dealer you ordered the car from you're not in the drivers seat come time of delivery.

I sent an inquiry to this dealership. The sales person came back with numbers and offered a $1200 off MSRP. Made it sound like the deal of the century. They kept sending me automated e-mail addresses, some repeat. Nothing was 'personal'. On the other hand, Greenway MB right off the bat was 5% off MSRP. The internet sales manager followed it up by saying I should stop in for a test drive and I won't be disappointed. I'm really thinking about going there for a drive!!!

I'm not obligated to buy the car if the price isn't agreed upon. And I'm pretty confident that there is still time for negotiation.

Did you have to place a deposit to secure the allocation?

I intentionally did not negotiate at time of order...I think the opposite...once the car is on the lot they "need" to get it off. The biggest factor however was that I ordered a car I had not seen in person or even driven. And it appears that was the correct strategy...I can now see what some others are being discounted and can use that as my standard. I initially placed an order in April for a C300 but then changed my mind in August and ordered a C400...I'll negotiate as soon as it arrives...either this week or next!!

Well good luck! The flip side is that the dealer knows how excited you are to wait for months for your car to arrive...there's not much motivation on their part to heavily discount the car once it arrives. I placed an order for a C300 with an agreed upon $6k discount. I wouldn't have done so without first knowing what type of deal I could arrange. I also can't see a dealer ordering a car without having some type of dicussion about pricing and securing a deposit for an ordered car. My dealer required a $2,500 non-refundable deposit which I felt was only fair since I was very specific on exactly what I wanted.

That's purty. I'm not a huge fan of non AMG's but that styling and interior really dresses to kill.

I did order a C300 in April with an August delivery...then changed my mind just before it arrived and ordered a C400 with a November delivery...waiting is not an issue. Dealerships have to get the cars "off" the lot once they arrive...believe me they are motivated. I wasn't willing to negotiate on something I had neither seen in person or driven much less make a financial commitment to it. Yeah I live in Vegas...but I'm not a gambler!!

I only had to put down 500 bucks. And that was just to secure the order.

Same here I only had to give up $500 to place order...a refundable $500.

Sounds like you guys either placed your name on an existing inbound order or you spec'd a very popular combo that the dealer knows they could easily resell if you back out, otherwise what's the point of a refundable deposit to order a car?

Yeah, that I understand and I'm totally fine with $500, $1,000, whatever the dealer wants to reasonably require...the point I'm trying to make is what benefit is it to the dealer if they allow you to order a car with refundable deposit? I can see a refundable deposit until your car goes into production or refundable if you want first crack at an inbound car they've ordered.

I also ordered a car spec'd out just the way I wanted it. And when C300s finally did arrive they were lightly optioned and they got 1 C400...so as you stated reselling orders wouldn't be difficult for the dealership. I'm not that brave...I would not give a non-refundable deposit on any car I haven't seen in person or driven. I think you did great on your deal...and thanks to folks like you I have something to shoot for.

It's all good, I guess I just have a different perspective

I just recently discovered the W205 while deciding if I wanted another Audi. I'm a very impulsive buyer (much to the dismay of my wife) and ordered the car before driving it. I planned to put $3k down so when the dealer asked for $2,500 for the order I was ok with that...now I have next to nothing to pay when it arrives in January.

This will be my first MB...I actually went to the dealership in November last year to check out the CLA...it was nice...but not what I expected. I started to buy a C class then but the salesman informed me that in 2015 there would be a new body style and interior. Once I saw it on-line I was hooked. We only have two dealerships here... as of today they have 7 C400s between them...and only one of the seven has the interior package...but no multimedia, hands-free or other options I wanted. I would have thought dealerships would have gotten one if not two loaded C300/400s...and so I wait...

Agree, the interior is a major improvement with the exception of the iPad-like screen... Seats are amazing looking!
