Does anyone know the tyre pressures if running non run flats. I think run flats use a higher pressure than 'normal' tyres. I'm fitting winters and don't want the pressure too high, because I don't think they'll work as well.

Exactly. I'm so sick of these tires. Which ones do you recommend? I've been searching for the Pirelli P7s, but they only list a summer performance.

looking for an all season.

Do you have the sport model and/or airmatic?

Sport, no airmatic.
Front: 255/40R/19
Rear: 245/35R/19

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...40&diameter=19

I found them on tirerack. but there are three options. The only diff is the UTGQ, what's the diff?

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 or 3 A/S. Great on this chassis. Quiet & comfortable with extraordinary handling.

It was a very harsh thud that really surprised me. I drove over the same thing on the way out with my G37X coupe with 18" non runflats and hardly felt it at all. I know this isn't the setup you were asking about but figured it would be useful anyway. I'm in the market for a C400 with AMG interior, which is only available with the 19" runflats and airmatic (sports package) in Canada, but after experiencing how terrible runflats are I just can't buy this thing with 19" runflats. The car's already going to cost me 70k after taxes and fees (we pay 12% sales tax plus 3% luxury tax in BC.)

It's really quite ridiculous that at this price point you can't choose non runflats. Even more ridiculous that you can't have 18" wheels on a model that is made in the same factory as the US spec C class, which does come with 18" wheels as an option with the AMG interior package. I'm hoping the option will be available in the 2016 configurator when MB Canada realises they are losing sales because of this.

I have the odd compression feeling with my C400, however my winter tires are not runflats so anyone hoping to avoid that will be disappointed. I have Airmatic and not sure if that is why it does that, but it is still there with or without runflats.

Welp, i think I'm going to pull the trigger. Going to order the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 all-season.

Next question - How do you think i should get rid of my stock Continentals? Only 2K miles on them.

What tire pressure do you plan on using in the non run flats.

Can you please describe the compression feeling more and what differences noted with the run flat vs no runflat in airmatic? Thanks!

A180 / On order S205
Hello!

I am about to buy my first W205 and I have spent hours upon hours on reading review after review and watched basically every video I can find. I only have one question. The most important thing for me is comfort when I drive in the city and when I take the highway across the country. ( I live in Sweden so across the country is 300 miles ). I work as a real estate agent and 240 days of the year I will drive in the city, and then I will drive home to visit my parents 6-8 times per year. So should I go for the airmatic or will normal steel spring suspension be just as good for me? I will not ever use any other mode then comfort if I get the airmatic.

The roads are generally very good here in Sweden but I am getting more and more interested in non run-flat wheels after reading all the posts here.

I will be getting 17" wheels on my W205 here in Sweden for added comfort.

Thank you for your help and advice.

You will find approx 2.3 bar all round to be right. If you travel 1 up most of the time the rear might wear in the centre & need to be run at 2.1 bar. Watch wear & adjust accordingly. Centre tread wear = overinflation, shoulder wear = underinflation.

Sorry about my last post it belonged in another thread. But on the subject of comfort it was interesting to read about the runflats -vs- conventional wheels. Here it seems people agree on that conventional wheels are the smoother more comfortable option?

Run-flats are an abomination. I had them (Dunlops?) on a 2008 Mini Cooper and the driving experience was horrible. It was all over the place in the rain and even in the dry, it wasn't that much better. It would tramline without much effort on my part and the level of noise was appalling. I ran over a (hidden) pot-hole once in snowy conditions, which bent the wheel and required a new tyre; the replacement tyre cost around $200 (including 17.5% sales tax)!

I am sure the technology has improved since 2008, but all the same, I wasn't terribly pleased when I read the C Class brochure and saw that the AMG model comes with run-flats.

There has been significant improvements in run-flat technology since 2008. I have driven on many versions and in 2008ish, I agree, they were total crap. The new ones are very similar in ride quality to conventional tires and they cost significantly less than they used to. They have a stiffer sidewall so they are still different, but the differences are not nearly as noticeable as they used to be.

I just replaced a set on my BMW. Michelins and they were reasonably priced. Smooth as silk, much better than the Conti-Pro SSRs that they replaced. I still hear the boom when I hit a large pot-hole (an issues with all run-flats, at least from what I hear) but the impact feel is significantly reduced. The other issue with older RFs is the tread noise increases as they wear. Only time will tell for me as I just put them on about 4 months ago and I put my winters on last month.

Guys,

Update.

I had the 19" run flats on my 2015 C300 Sport. Had 5K on them, and I was severely unimpressed by the ride, specifically when I would hit any bump in the road.

I upgraded to non-run flats Michelin Pilot Sport A/S all season. Cost me 1K from tirerack.

It made a HUGE difference. The car rides SO much better now. yes, I understand I don't have a spare, etc. but, I have road side thru MB and my insurance, and I don't go out of seattle, much, so that was a wash for me.

Just my 2 cents.

Which brand of run flats did you have? Any appreciable road noise difference?

No surprises there. The tyres you now have are vastly better than any run flat. I don't think people realise how big the difference is.

Will MB dealership change the tires? If not, will the warranty be affected? Thanks

Not surprised @ the big improvement in ride ! But maybe you should pack a TireFit kit (compressor + can of tire sealant) in your trunk ? That's what MB Canada provides for my car which has regular all season tires (non-RFTs) and no spare.

Unfortunately, the ride of the new C is adversely affected by RFTs.
