Garmin Map Pilot and playing music

Garmin Map Pilot and playing music
Hi,
I normally don't like the in-dash navigation. C300 now has this LCD panel sticking out. Has anyone tried to mount another GPS unit around it?
If it does not work well, I guess I'd have to buy it. How well is it integrated with the rest of system? For example, if there is music playing in the background, will it pause or lower the music volume when making announcement?
To be clear, I dont' have to get the multimedia package. Will I be able to load some mp3 on a flash memory card and play them on the car? Or do I need to plug a music player in?
Thanks

I have the Garmin maps in my C250 Bluetec and they're powered by an SD card which occupies the only slot (located inside the cubby in the armrest). You can choose to automatically lower the audio volume when nav instructions are given, keep the music playing at its current level or just mute the directions altogether.
I have an 8GB USB stick plugged in to one of the two slots and use it as my jukebox. The other slots taken with my iPhone charger.
All work very well together and no complaints from me.

I have a 2015 c300 with garmin map pilot. It has not lived up to my expectations, unfortunately. I have the feature to reduce the volume when the navi lady speaks in the On position but it does not work. If your volume is high, it will stay high and you can barely understand the directions. Not sure if that is a software bug or what. Has anyone had that problem before?. Another issue is that is the navi is very slow to boot, it takes a while.

I thought the Navi voice was very quiet, but you have to turn it up using volume wheel when it's talking to you. As in, when it reads out a direction. I found this easiest by telling it to repeat last direction then being ready to turn volume wheel up then.

Hi mikeyw,
That's not the problem I have. I already did that from the get go. Like I said, there is a featire in the settings (when ON) that should reduce the volume of the music when the lady talks like any other normal integrated navigation does.
Imagine having the music high and also the volume of the navi high, there is no way to understand the directions clearly, if the music does not fade.

1) look at the huge navi screen in the middle.
2) Look at the smaller navi screen in the instrument cluster in front of you.

Do you mean there is no way to lower the music volumen while the direction is being read? This is a feature that's really useful in application such as iGO/Primo.

I've found the voice recognition to be pretty rubbish tbh.

That's bizarre. I just copied my music directly from iTunes (drag and drop into the USB folder) and the files work perfectly. Totally different experience to my Audi where the majority wouldn't play as you experience.
I don't have voice recognition so can't comment but try doing a different accent if just for your own amusement if nothing else haha

Lol yeah, both myself and my partner have pretty strong accents. He's Northern and I'm Midlands. It's quicker to use the wheel in the centre.
