poor tail light fitment

People should not have to correct items themselves on a new car. There are also issues of ability to do so & warranty dependent on market.

I supervise my car being washed at the dealer. I won't allow them to touch the interior. 3 cars back they had to replace all the interior wood on my car with 2000 miles on the clock. They scratched it all with a vacuum nozzle.

Ok, I'll say it....no good excuse for the car to make it to an owners hands with maligned body parts, and you should not only have it fixed, but get a good will gesture without asking IMO. Mistakes happen, but by the tech who misaligned it, the final stages of factory who only do QA, the delivery team, then by the dealership prep tech, and your salesman? I know it's not 'a big deal and can probably be fixed by just pulling the trunk panel and aligning the tabs'. If so, it could have just as easily been rapidly fixed even right at delivery when they were hanging the license plate on your car and saved the bad taste your mouth after spending a lot of money wondering 'what else did they all miss'.

Of course they shouldnt have to, but if the dealer is disliked, hard to reach etc I am suggesting that it is an easy fix if one would want to skip the hassle of returning to a dealer.

Any update OP on the tail lights? We just purchased a C300 4MATIC last night and I checked the production date on the car and it was 9/14, and has the tail lights also sticking out, but the fuel filler door flush with the car. No wonder we got such a huge discount off the price...didn't even think of checking what plant/production date the car was!!

we went back to the dealer, the service manager showed us other C300. all of them had tail lights sticking out like that. so the service manager couldn't do anything to adjust them.

So what?
This only means that all of the cars on the lot are poorly built. Dont give up that easily.

It might be time to head over to a good local body shop and see if they can do the adjustment for you. It should be a very minor job with minimal expense. You might also try calling MB customer service and see if they would get involved on your behalf.

this is something i noticed on my car as well.
also my fuel cap is sticking out the same way. and the c400 numbers are a little loose too. and last but not least, my driver side window retains water, so every time i lower it and roll it back up, there are streak marks on the window, even if it hasnt rained in days.

"Best or nothing"... hmmm. That just looks completely wrong. Is that whole panel meant to be inset like that? Can't compare since I don't have my car yet, but that wouldn't be something I'd accept. If the dealer wasn't going to fix it, then I'd try and re-align that myself.

That picture tells a different story, looks like the tail lamp is mounted correctly but the bumper is pushed in too far.
There is a "stepping" clip behind the upper part of the bumper, if adjusted wrong before fitting the bumper it will look this way.

+1^. And look how badly finished the turned in lip of the metal is as well.
I wonder if the US plastics for the bumpers are accurately manufactured.
EDIT: That would never get past QC in the SA plant. No dealer in SA would accept a car like that either.

Better, but still inconsistent IMO. The red car looks like better light fitment but there certainly appears to be a difference in how the two panels (bumper and rear quarter panel?) meet up. White car looks great but there's a noticeable step up on the red one... Or is that just the angle of the photo?

By looking from the outside you cannot notice anything abnormal, but yes, the white one has slightly better fitment.

Wow, some of those look horrid.
Good business model going forward, M-B. Perceptively build them poorly, jack the MSRP up, then discount the MSRP on a brand newly released car (very uncommon on a hot car that's been long awaited for a new body style) like gangbusters immediately to a price more appropriated. Very much the workings of a prestigious manufacturer.
