Yes, Yes ~ You simply don't understand the manual or operation of the Assyst. You fight with Sportstick who had a long & distinguished career with OEM's much of it at Daimler Chrysler.

A certain fellow who is on a 7 day suspension collected many member complaints & the decision to suspend was made by 3 moderators. You have collected a number of member complaints and I have handed them off to other moderators. When I've had a disagreement with a member I leave my gun at the door.

Seeing you endlessly speculate & doubt. My last invite. They had everything there including the SLS so as not to miss an opportunity. The focus of this day was the babies. Previous track day focus was S Class & S Class hybrid. I do lead an interesting life. Always have for which I'm grateful.

Whew. Totaled my MINI and still have 3 full 5 qt containers of Mobil 1 0w40. Was worried that would be too thin for the C300. Glad it's recommended after my break-in period.

I still have a couple of quarts of 0-20 mobile one left over from my old subaru. I guess I'll just use it for gun oil. Probably a lifetime supply at the rate I use it.

I'll pick up a quart of 0-40w for the trunk of the C450. FWIW, the owners manual is pretty ambiguous about oil spec. I'm glad Mobile 1 is one of the approved ones though since I've used it for a number of years and I trust the product.

So far, oil consumption on the new C450 has been zero. But not having a spare quart of oil in the trunk makes me nervous. Old habits die hard I guess.

Hey Glyn, I'll soon becoming over from a couple of BMWs to a 2017 C300 coupe. I'm not a high mileage guy and have had the 325i (65K miles) and z4 2.5i (44k miles) for 10 years. After the free oil changes, I changed the oil myself (once a year) using a vacuum pump and Mobil 1 0W40 here in south Florida. When I left the cars, the engines were purrrring, I never lost oil, and gas mileage was always excellent (well within normal-21mpg city and 31 mpg highway). Although my previous cars have done well with 0W40 in the constantly warm weather of FL, would using 5W40 make any difference?

I would also like to know. Also, which oil filter does it take? Is it a closely guarded state secret? I can't seem to find that info anywhere.

Went to the dealer. They tried to sell me 5w40 at $7+ a quart. Got the filter there for $25 and then went to Walmart and got 0w40 229.5 Mobile 1 for $22 for 5 quarts. Much cheaper.

Yes I know I need almost 7 qts but had some led from my prior car so was good!

You can get the genuine filter for under $10 online

Edit. Nevermind, that is for the Turbo 4. The V6 filter is around $16 online

I bought genuine Mercedes filters (engine air intake, activated carbon, cabin intake, and 3x oil filter) from Mercedes Parts Center. That way I could spread the $10 shipping charge over all the parts.

So all mobil 1 full synthetic 0w40 is 229.5? And this is what the 450 takes?

So I should use shell?

Why would you want to use a product primarily designed for diesel engines in a gasoline engine with an ash level clamped at <0.8%. In reality it has half the additive treat of the average 229.5 product & will not look after the highly loaded cam & tappet area anywhere near as well even at reduced drain. My recommendation is to ONLY use 229.5 at recommended drain on the Assyst. If you enter the lower quality products in the system they will work but are not ideal & the Assyst will automatically call you in for an early oil change. You won't find any sensible dealer using anything other than 229.5.

BTW ~ In SA ~ considered a torrid zone by Benz. 229.51 is not listed for the M274.

The Shell break-in oil used in Bremen, Sindelfingen, East London & every Benz plant I've been in is a 5W-30 synthetic. It has zero moly in it (high temperature anti oxidant) which you will find in Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro Formulation 229.5. Our additive company sells the additive system to Exxon Mobil. (oil sample analysis will show the differences immediately)

I am playing the Benz line that I wholeheartedly endorse. I've worked with them on the Service Products approvals program over many, many years. Benz owners are very lucky that Benz undertakes all the expensive testing & approvals process for them. Makes product selection dead simple globally.

We try to offer the best possible advice on this forum. If you choose to ignore it so be it.

I have a 2011 c300 w204 116k miles but I live in new England where weather is high and very low for months. What oil should I use? Brand and exact one if possible. Thanks in advance!
