Screeching Brakes

I also have this problem in Canada. Its been around -10 during the day and even colder at night, it usually happens then the car is cold (Brakes and Rotors are cold). This is also caused by the type of pads used and the fact that rotors a crossed drilled. This is more of a performance feature and less of a comfort tbh. I also get the feeling that the pads are performance pads, which is why they squeak so loudly when cold. I have heard this happening on other cars with similar setup. It will usually go away once warmed up.

My C400 does this as well in Canada. At first I thought it was worn out pads grinding on the rotors but that was obviously incorrect. They squeal when I am coming to a stop and it is quite embarrassing as well.

I think Benz might have changed pad friction material. Do these pads still leave a lot of black brake dust on the front wheels like traditional (quiet) Pagid pads do? I don't think this is a rotor/disc issue.

2015 E250 BT 4M
My 2015 E250BT has the AMG Sport package with sport front bakes (drilled rotors). These brakes are very quiet, in all weather conditions. The screeching problem seems to be affecting only the W205 brakes.

Screeching brakes update
Just got my C400 back from the dealer regarding the screeching brakes issue. They let the car sit outside in the cold overnight and heard the problem first hand in the morning. They replaced the pads and rotors on the front. There was no sound the next morning.
Interestingly, after my brake job was done, the dealer got a notice from MB acknowledging the screeching brake complaints. The MB notice instructed dealers not to repair affected cars until their engineers research and come up with a solution. It sounds like they realize there is a problem and will work to fix it.
The next couple of mornings will be interesting to see if my new brakes screech. Hopefully not, but I've read other posts where the rotor and pad replacement hasn't worked. Fingers crossed.

Replacing the front pads and rotors appears to have worked for me. It's been five days of cold temperatures, and not one screech or squeal from my brakes. Prior to the repair, the brakes screeched every morning at home and every afternoon when leaving work.

On February 10th I was at the dealership and I asked my service advisor if MBUSA had given them any further information about the brake screeching problem. There was nothing since the first notice, they are still waiting.
While I was in the service center, I heard a loud screeching sound that I immediately recognized as the brakes of a C Class. It was a recording another customer with a c300 was playing for a service rep. It was every bit as bad as my brakes used to sound.
As a follow up, my brakes have remained quiet since the front pads and rotors were changed at the end of January.

This appears to definitely be a temp related issue (at least in my experience)...Denver has had unseasonably warm weather lately and I haven't heard the brakes squeal a single time in a couple of weeks. This morning it was in the mid 20's and guess what's back.

Glad I saw this thread as my brakes are doing the same thing. One more thing for the dealership to take care of while it is in there for the bleeding seats...cold weather has not been kind to this car

I had the squeaking brakes and did a hard stop and it seems to have solved the squeaking problem on my C-400.

yup this issue is definitely weather related, when it gets really cold. i never had this issue until the past 2 weeks when it got really cold.. and i only heard it when initally starting the car and hitting the brakes, but after a little while no more screeching once things are sort of warmed up .

The noise is back on my C400 after almost 3 weeks of silence since the "fix" done by the dealer. Apparently, replacing pads and rotors isn't the solution. I will periodically check with the dealer for updates on MB's research efforts. At least I hope the screeching goes away as temperatures warm and MB comes up with a fix before next winter.

GLE450 AMG Coupe
My car is at the dealer right now getting the brake screeching addressed. They said that they are "treating" the pads for now, until MB figures out how to solve the problem.

So it has been a month and a half since Mercedes started "researching" this issue. Has anyone heard back from their dealer about a fix yet?
In the meantime, it has started to warm up again in the US. Meaning the complaints of squealing brakes in the US will die off for at least 6 to 8 months. I wonder if they are just hoping this will go away.
