Yes they manufacture W/S205 in the Bremen plant in germany.

First few batches of RHD were made in Germany
subsequently all Right Hand Drive W205 moved to SA

South Africa had a huge stockpile of RHD vehicles built prior to the global launch. They always do for any new model.

All RHD wagons are built in Germany. To reduce complexity & confine it to the German plants SA only builds LHD & RHD sedans.

For USA, all C-Class models are built in Alabama. They are not currently exported to other markets. In total, there are 4 production facilities for the 205. Germany, USA, South Africa and China. This is very different than the SUVs which are built in Alabama which sell in the USA and also markets outside USA.

Picking up my C250 (Australian model) next week or so. Just wanting to know whether I should ask the dealer to update the firmware version on the car and address any known issues prior to delivery or is this done automatically as standard by MB?

Mine (C220 BT) is made in Bremen. I don't know if petrol C180, 200 and 250 are also made in Germany or not. Here in Italy C300 and 400 are not imported at all.

Yes that's possible. Bremen can configure cars for UK, European, SA & so called international spec. Some RHD for Japan are sourced from Bremen. Mainly from SA

Only RHD for UK to my knowledge. Our major LHD production goes to China/Asia/ME.

At least as good as Bremen. SA frequently wins the QC round robin. You can Google the number of awards the SA plant has won.

Is the new C-Class being sold in Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Mexico? If so, where are those cars coming from? All these discussions seem centered on North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South Africa, but what about the rest of the world?

Stan ~ It's a language thing. This is an English board. We have very few Spanish & Portuguese members from LA. 205 is going great guns in China but we have very few HK/South China ~ Cantonese, rest of Mainland ~ Mandarin speaking members. Brazil has a Benz plant but I don't think it's building 205 yet.

Everybody is of course most welcome but some battle with English, other are fluent.

Our membership from Asia has grown steadily.
