Ambient Lighting
I'm wonder why MB has decided to limit the ambient lighting inside the W205 to the three output colors only (i.e. White, Blue & Amber). The LED chips that get used are undoubtedly RGB emitters so theoretically you should be able to generate any mix. I think in the S-Class you get seven colors to play with under the same COMAND menu screen so what's up with that on the C? Maybe the marketing ploy was "spend double the money on the car, get double the colors inside"
Has anyone ever found any info or articles in relation to this?

On the B-class and CLA-class you get 12 colors, so obviously it's not related to the price of the car ![Wink](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Why they would limit to 3 colors only on the C-class, I have no idea!

I see your point.. but don't see it as a problem. I'm glad these are the three they picked and are available. All three are unique and inoffensive. Purple might look swanky and club-o-licious in the S, but not in the C. Green? Pass. Red tends to hurt the eyes and reminds me of the interior lighting/switchgear of earlier Audis.
Maybe somebody can figure out the coding eventually and include other colors.

Also on all the sales pictures the centre console lights looked much brighter, I find all the ambiant lighting quiet low, some new passengers don't even recognise it as being on

I've got it, but I end up keeping it on orange. Blue clashes with the orange lights on the switchgear and white just looks like you've left the lights on in the car.
I wanted to use the blue as that's what's in my Jag, but the Jag has blue lights on the switches so it all coordinates. Orange and blue just doesn't work.

I don't see it as a problem either - just a peculiar point of "WHY?". The programming for the COMAND firmware interface would be pretty standardized by now to keep the UI consistent across the model range. If the vehicle system is supporting a particular hardware function (i.e. ambient lighting) then you would think there's more effort involved to deliberately differentiate between the models than to just keep it consistent - seems counterproductive. Just makes me wonder that kind of swanky marketing professor made those calls. "Oh.. no, no, no.. vee cannot have ze red color in the C-Class, our target group haz indicated zat would not be ze right look at all since it reminds them of liverwurst. "
Meh... whatever. The system will probably get an update one day with new firmware and it'll get trumpeted as a 'new' and 'exciting' upgrade feature - "New 2015 C Class, now with 10 color ambient lighting to match every mood" (and the crowd goes wild!).

The CLA only had orange when it first came out but in the second year, the car can be had with the 12 hues. I have a feeling the 2016 C class might add all the colors too

In the UK it's part of the 'Premium' package which also gives you keyless entry/go, panoramic roof, and memory seats. You can't spec it on it's own and having leather or wood makes no difference (I've got MBTex/Artico and black ash).

Does this lighting turn up and down for brightness
Mines knowhere as bright as all the pictures and I do agree that the colour of the door controls should be changeable it does look odd if you have blue lighting on with the gold of the door controls

In Australia all C-Class variants came equipped with the Ambient lighting... so piano black, non-leather etc. It'll be different in every country I suppose.
