D2 to D3 a bit jerky when cold?

Anyone else find that from a cold start the auto gearbox is a bit jerky? Its a little jerky in D1 to D2 but I find D2 to D3 really odd, almost like the car brakes a bit before changing gear. I' hope this improves with mileage (circa 400 miles now). This is on the 4 pot petrol btw.

I've clearly been spoiled by my BMW DCT which is beyond smooth.

Yes, just a bit when it's cold. Nothing that bothers me much, in fact it only happens once and then it's done.

well I'm reassured it's not a fault but you'd think in this day and age they could make a smooth transmission. BMW autos feel like butter by comparison.

The car goes into high idle, open loop at cold start & holds low gears for longer, runs the excess air fan etc to heat the Cats more quickly for emissions purposes. It is more noticeable with 4 bangers. As long as all is smooth once fully warmed up don't worry about it.

I wouldn't say its 100% smooth when warmed up but it's a lot better.

Just that d2 to d3 that seems really jerky, d3 to d4 and above are smoother. To me it seems they need to work on the gearbox logic a bit more.

I agree with the cold shifting being jerky. Mine too seems odd shifting from D2 to D3. It only stays in D2 for a second or two, then the RPM's rev slightly and it quickly shifts to D3.

Once warmed, it's smooth sailing. I've never driven a BMW, but the warm shifting in the Benz is smoother than a Lexus (models I've owned).

Thanks. I think part of it is that I'm used to the BMW DCT and with it being dual clutch you don't feel the shifts at all, it's completely linear power delivery. I can stand feeling the shifts but this d2/d3 makes me nod forward every time like I brake slightly. You're right it shifts out of d2 quite quickly compared to other gears. I'll see how it goes... It's clearly not a fault, just a bit annoying as I do a lot of cold and short commute runs.

Benz endlessly launch new software flashes for these transmissions. Make sure yours has the latest flash at next service. Also request they check all lockup pressures with Star & re-run all adaptions. These are fully software controlled transmissions. Shift shock issues are usually easily remedied.

my car is jerky too from d3 to d3. it is also jerky from d1 to d2, but less. The problem is very noticeable in very cold winter weather. unfortunately this is another cold temperature related illness...on top of bleeding seats, screeching brakes, and frozen touchpad/infotainment system. but the engine jerkiness gets better once the engine is warm; it is better but not butter smooth.
just be careful before doing a software update for this problem because I seem to remember another post that mentioned that the update improved a bit the shifts from d2 to d3 but created a worse jerkiness at higher gear shifts (d4-d5 or d5-d6...don't remember), which isn't necessarily better.

Coming from BMW F30, I must say that BMW has a better smoother transmission. I can't feel the gears changing in my F30. It's so smooth. All 8 gears. Amazing! I was too surprised to find out that the gear in W205 not as smooth as the F30. Especially in the morning, cold start from D2 to D3. Definitely jerky. D1 to D2 less jerky, but still there. Even during the day and night the car still jerky, but not as bad as in the morning. It's better but far from smooth. So sad...

i actually noticed when i was merging on the highway the other day (flooring it) that the 2 to 3 shift was rather harsh. engine was warm. what i did like was that the exhaust gave me a nice little fart like the dsg in my old gti used to

D2

Is it normal that the car shows D2 in comfort and eco modes when I'm at a stop such as waiting at a red light? It very rarely shows D1 when I come to a complete a stop after driving for some time. The only time I always see D1 in confront mode is when I turn the car on. On the other hand, it always shows D1 at a stop in sport/sport+ modes.

D1/2/3/4 all have jerky shifts, but it's really random, worst when the engine is cold. Most of the time is smooth as butter and It doesn't bother me enough to take it to the dealer, yet.
