Anyone played around with settings for Burmester?

So I've been playing around with the Burmester sound settings and I can't find a good setup. Playing audio from the iPod, the rear speakers appear hardly on at all when the fronts are at normal listening levels. Turning on surround sound helps, especially if I tell it to focus on the rear. But, I don't like the sound when surround is on and I'd rather not have to throw the fader backwards when surround is off as this loses frequency cohesion, bass lessens for example.

The other oddity is that according to the manual, setting surround sound focus should only work when surround is on, yet, if I change surround sound focus to rear/front/all, the sound changes even though surround is not enabled.

Its all a bit baffling.

It's really trial and error. I leave Surround on because it does provide a fuller sound, but at the expense of some clarity. Personally, I increased treble and midrange to get the sound I wanted, but not everyone hears or likes the same frequency response.

The one thing that can really kill the sound is the auto-volume control. It should be off by default, but it's good to check anyway.

Its partly the front bias I want to address, it just seems quiet in the back. Plus, this whole surround front/back/all makes a difference even when surround is off thing... odd. I'll play but just wondered what others thought.

I played with my one and my best settings are: Surround All, Fader +4, Mid +2, Treble +2, Bass 0. The sound is in that config the most spacious and clear from driver's seat. I know the rear has a little less, so if that is important I would play with Fader and reduce it to 0. I can tell the sound source makes a huge differnce with the system, eg DAB radio vs CD is a huge difference for CD advantage of course.

How do you shut off the auto volume? Can't find that option anywhere.

I like my music to sound like my headphones - like the sound is coming from 360 around my head at the same level.

So, my settings are:

Fader +5 Front, + 5 Right, Surround On, -1 Bass (the car is already too bass heavy anyway)

Just got my new C300 Sport, which replaces my "what else can go wrong?" C300 base. Both cars have Premium and Multimedia.

The Burmester does not sound the same between these two cars, and the auto volume option is no longer in the menu.

MB must have changed the woofers or subwoofer somewhere along the way. With my 8/14 build, I left the bass set at +2 for a balanced sound. I tried that same setting with the new car, a 3/15 build, and the bass almost knocked me out of the car. I couldn't find a comfortable bass level until I got into the -2 or -3 level on the equalizer.

When I went to check the auto volume control, there was simply no option for that on the Vehicle/Settings sub menu. It's not on by default, and I could hear no auto volume variations as I drove ... so I think that feature has been eliminated.

Very odd ...

I found my auto volume option under vehicle and system settings.

Thanks. I've done it a few times before, but this time I was trying to find it while my wife was driving and I was in the passenger's seat. I'll go through it while sitting in the driveway next time. These menus are really obscure.

Yep obscure alright. I mean who'd have thought it a bad idea to put all sound related options in the sound section?

Nah lets put it with the backup camera settings and Bluetooth enablement.

I guess we should be thankful that they didn't put the treble, midrange, and bass controls on separate and individual menus and sub-menus. The treble could be under Vehicles, the midrange under Media, and the bass under Navigation.

So I've played further with settings and just slightly more tone and neutral mid and bass seems good to me. I've also found the two extra speakers in the car, which I've been puzzling over for days. They're in the roof (s205).

So one centre dash, two in the footwells, two in each drivers side, two in each passenger side and two in the roof right at the back, which are tuned low gain to provide more surround enhancement than real output. That's the 13 accounted for.

Without surround enabled the rears are quiet so when I've people in I guess surround goes on, when it's just me I prefer the neutral non surround.

I'm a bit closer to knowing its setup now.
