Do you have any details on the firmware upgrade (Version?). My Ontario car has the same issue.

Thanks

No idea, but when I told my dealer about the issue they new immediately what to do. I think it is a well known problem and solution.

I'll suck up the fact I can't import CDs for the fact I have equipment that I value that isn't available in most markets.
Whilst in the UK the system won't let you import CDs into the music register there's a quick and easy workaround. I use Microsoft Windows Media Player to rip CDs to MP3 files using the highest quality of 320kbps (which is probably higher than necessary) and then copy the artist/album folder structure, including the JPEG files containing the album artwork, onto a USB memory stick. All the files can then be quickly imported as a single operation into the music register - it took about 2 minutes to import five CDs which was much quicker than the rip and file conversion process. Other file formats can be used and I guess other software like Apple iTunes might also do the trick. Hope this helps.

Did the same with ITunes and an SD card, took no time at all.

Sadly with a MacBook Air that has no optical drive this isn't ideal. Bmw allow ripping of audio CDs to the car so why MB don't is contradictory.
