Blackvue Install
#51
The digital interference is a known issue with that model Blackvue unfortunately (especially the 2 channel models) - apparently it screws up your DAB levels as well.
You could look at something like this filter perhaps, or do some forum googling for options/answers..

Nice install but looks like a lot of work..I have a 650 (used to have ITB100HD) and just tapped into power at the rear view mirror console..I just leave it on full time as it uses very little current..If vehicle is to be off for a few days I just turn it off by pulling power connector out..
Thanks

I know there's been some previous threads discussing these type of cameras before, but I thought I would add one that's specific to a Blackvue dashcam install in the W205. Below is an illustrated story line of how I did mine .. hope it helps.
Equipment as follows: (I won't repeat specs since Google has that side of things well and truly covered)
Tidy up your wires, set the PowerMagic timing dip switches as desired and plug it all in. Done! ..
Equipment as follows: (I won't repeat specs since Google has that side of things well and truly covered)
- Blackvue DR600GW
- Power Magic Pro (also from Blackvue; This unit will allow the camera to keep recording once the car is turned off and it also prevents the battery from being drained)
- Fuse taps (Blade type; x2)
- Wire crimpers
- Thin plastic spatula (even credit card will do)
- Mount the camera
- Run the cable through the top of the headliner and then out towards the side. Using a small plastic card to gently open the edge is all that's needed. Once you're on the side near the door you can follow the rubber lining (red dotted line is where I've run the wire)
- Keep following the roof lining all the way to the back. The joiner near the B-Pillar is easy to open up enough for the cable to pass through; there's no need to undo any clips or lining completely.
- Once at the back, follow the upper line of the C-Pillar. I found that the lower segment where the air bag meets the seat was too tightly clipped joined so I just ran it along the upper part all the way to the back screen and then back around towards the seat where the rear speaker is on the shelf.
- From there it's an easy path along the lower edge of the seats into the trunk. The blackvue ran out of cable about 3/4 along the rear seats but that's not an issue. The PowerMagic has plenty of cable length to make up for the shortfall. The 12V socket to plug in the unit can hide under the lower edge of the seat (I used some adhesive tape to secure it from rattling around within the seat cavity.
- Now remove the rear liner covering the fuse box. You need to make three connections with the PowerMagic Pro:
- Yellow wire goes to a permanent batter 12V connection. I found this on one of the lower right fuse points that were unused.
- Red wire goes to an Accessory switched 12V connection. I found this in position 445 (labelled Socket 12V in trunk)
- Black wire goes to ground; I used an M8 chassis bolt located near the upper right corner of the fuse assembly.
Tidy up your wires, set the PowerMagic timing dip switches as desired and plug it all in. Done! ..

OP, thanks for taking the time to provide this write up. Installed my DR650 last nite in my E550 and this was helpful. Fuse taps are the way to go! Thx!!

Wow.. so a mounted camera is considered a 'surveillance' camera which requires a permit in Sweden? .. how ridiculous! What about the camera already built into the car?
Seems like there's a few paranoid countries in the EU that have the same silly rules. Apparently Austria has a €25,000 fine for repeat offenders. Gee-wizz!

2 questions, why not fuse boxes that are closers? more room?
Does running it that way impedes the side curtain airbag?

How much does the installation cost? or did you do it by yourself?
I'm thinking about getting dash cam
I can't decide between the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH and Thinkware F750
I'll probably end up getting the latter

I like that it has a lot of features and awards, but I can't decide yet

Anyone thought of mounting on the overhead console?
Im very curious if this could be a viable mounting spot as the Dashcam would be another 1-2 inches off the glass and out of direct sunlight.
What do you think? Rather than on the glass?

Thanks!
I used your instructions to wire up my cam today.
The fuse box was a little different on my car ('09 C63 AMG) but your post was still very helpful and gave me the courage to do this myself.

Do you have any pics of your F750-2ch install?
I just picked this up also and am unsure of the ideal mounting poistion. Even considering whether it's possible to mount on the plastic housing the rains sensors and lane cameras just to keep it out of direct sunlight and heat!

Before I crack this plastic, how the hell did you get this thing off? Any pics of how it attaches hopefully? The one on the passenger footwell is much easier to tap into, but there's no fuse diagram. So I have no clue what fuse is what.
Also, I don't understand why the OP ran his wires all the way to the trunk. I'm sure there's a reason.
Lastly, is there a fuse diagram anywhere? THANKS in advance!

The reason I ran mine to the trunk was because there's unused open circuits to tap into rather than place additional load on an existing one. Either location will work - it's just preference.

First question: would you happen to know how to access the fuse box by the driver side door without scratching it? I.e. - got a clue where I can strategically place a screwdriver to pop things off without scratching it? I just didn't want to force it and break pins...
Second question: Per chance, got a clue which fuse slot I could "tap" into? I have a volt meter so I can eventually figure out which is an ignition on wire.
The reason why I need to go into either of the fuse boxes (vs the trunk or headliner) is because I use the "Concealed Display" module. I don't like the lights going off at the top of the headliner since it's easily visible from the back. I'd rather the V1 be totally blacked out and have the display routed to the Concealed Display module which I'll have along the dash somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help!

At night though the images captured aren't brilliant and it's difficult to see numberplates unless they're lit with something such as headlights from another car.
Cars are visible fine if on a normal lit road but you just can't see detail.
Hope this helps!

The adhesive patches work well on glass because he surface is very flat and presents a lot of surface to adhere..
The plastic is textured and therefore a lot less surface to adhere...
With heat and the leverage these units place on the mounting pad (offset center of mass relative to adhesive pad placement) It is foreseeable it would drop away pretty quickly..... no matter what 3m VHB tape you used..
i fixed mine right up hard against the roof liner on the top edge of the glass in the top corner of the screen, i had to fabricate a small polucarbonate angled shim to correct the direction(curvature f the glass), but there it is hidden away behind the sundhades (which i have permanently down), and harder to see from the outside..
Its more wrok to install but its a 2CH and mines a wgaon so i had to gt creative with the back hatch install and cable routing ayway so what the hell....
Hope that helps
