New owner - thanks and some questions

Hi all,

Was looking to replace wife's car BMW 3 series and couldn't find a car and then she saw the CLA and she liked the design. I then started researching and found this forum. I also found the great discounts everyone was getting.

So I reached out to my local dealer and test drove and wife and I both liked the car and got it this weekend. Is not as much as everyone is getting but I got $7,000 off.

So now I have a few questions, what will the memory settings do? In our BMW the key fob remembered the settings and we both had our profiles for radio stations, climate control etc. but I can't find anything of that sort in the C300.

Also, can't find a way to do Bluetooth connection to my iPhone and will I be able to then stream spotify?

The cable that they provide to connect the iPhone is to small, is there a way to extend that in can I want to mount my iPhone.

We did not have enough time to go over the car with the dealership which we will do on the weekend, but until then I wanted to get some of the things figured out.

Memory pack stores seat, mirror, steering and HUD focus/angle settings I think. Its not as advanced as the setup in the BMW (I know, I have one) which remembers a lot of user settings too for the iDrive/nav etc. The memory seats don't move per key, they move per button on the door (memory 1/2/3 buttons).

Yes bluetooth is there and spotify will stream albeit you have to start it going on the phone first and you can then adjust volume and tracks, but its limited. I've already moaned at MB about this given BMW have a full track and art implementation too.

You can use any iPhone cable, get one from eBay.

Mercedes chooses to not link memory functions to its fobs. So, all memory functions are in the car itself and pretty much limited to the seat and vehicle settings you store. It's somewhat stupid, but that's the way they've always done it.

Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone. Then go into the TEL menu and there'll be a couple of options to pair a new phone. Your contact list will automatically be loaded.

Just buy a new cable ... they're cheap.

Make sure you download the online manuals and the IOS app. They have much more information than the written manual, plus the COMAND manual is online only. There's also an MB owner's site that has lots of tips and instruction videos.
Hope this helps. It takes a while to absorb it all.

Yeah, it's definitely different than the BMW idrive, which I like, but I am getting used to the C300 command now.

I just want to make sure I know all the features to take advantage of them.
The Dashboard display, can that be customized? I see when we went for a test drive the sales guy changing it to trip and thats how we have kept it, but is there any other cool displays or settings that you can adjust?

On the BMW there were buttons which could be set to speed dials? I can't find anything like that on the C300.

There's a learning curve the the various systems (seems German ones are the most over-engineered). The center of dash has various options, the phone is one of them. Though the car doesn't integrate 'speed dial' as well as some of the other car's systems I've used. If you have command, the voice feature is IMO easiest way to make calls...she understands better than any other car I've ever had. Worth checking out the online manual from the MB site for the car and command, you'll be ahead of the sales guys if you skim it before you hit the dealer for your orientation. And the printed guide for voice features, learn a few verbal commands, run through the voice customization feature and you're set.
