Presumably that is why they moved to the other design.. If it's that fiddly then your dealer ought to pop a replacement in for you - not the cost that's the issue, but the ruddy principle.

Yeah, I'll ask if they can throw one in there whenever I happen to go there again. Does seem like a pretty crappy design...
My solution: Keep a Smart Car in the trunk in case of emergency. I can get into the trunk easily with the emergency key.
I had the opportunity to sit inside one of these. I couldn't believe how much leg room there is inside these death traps. I could get six of them and park them all in my two car garage.
Lol, I tried just inserting the tip but that didn't work. If you look at the last pic of the cap it looks like you just have to unlock that first tab so maybe inserting just the tip would work. Good luck
