The OP said there is no chrome strip on the passenger's side, but his pictures clearly show one there. One is high, and one is low, but it sure likes like two chrome strips to me.

I think it might just be the light hitting the extended rocker panel inset at the right angle making it look "not black". AFAIK, the only w205 that has the AMG Line rocker, and chrome is the C63s. Even the regular C63 is body colored.

I knew a guy who had a w204 c350 with mb TeX.

So the inner panels on his doors should all have been mb TeX but the right passenger side was leather.

My friends would call it 'his leather' as a joke because of a top gear episode where Richard Hammond had one 'alloy' .

Still can't believe stuff like this gets through to dealers

I would be willing to bet that it didn't come from the factory that way. It was probably damaged at the dealership somehow and the body shop simply ordered the wrong parts. I'd bet my Benz on it. No way it left the factory like that.

I'd that that bet. I'd bet worse leaves the factories with obvious deformities daily. Emphasis on efficiency and speed over all else causes a lot of misses. Hopefully MB fixes it without a string of "that's normal....part of the design" visits in between.

The dealer swears that they had nothing to do with this. I don't give much credit to that statement though.

It looks like one whole rocker panel needs to be replaced, different shape where the chrome trim fits in. Now I don't know how this is assembled on a W205, but if it is similar to a w212 it doesn't look like that big of a job at least according to the video below.

Now how this actually got delivered this way is another story all together. My guess is it was either damaged in transport (something like careless unloading from the truck) or a doughnut fail by the guy that drove it from the truck to its parking spot and they put on the wrong part. Sort of explains why the servicing dealer didn't want to touch it (my guys aren't getting blamed for that sht).

Unbelievable. Mercedes really has a quality control problem in Bama. WOW. I mean that should have caught someone's eye along the line from time it was built until the time the dealer service tech prepped the car to the time the salesman went over the car at delivery. I cannot believe it. The ML and GL don't have these problems and they're built at the same plant. New car in a new plant (for that car) just spells trouble at Mercedes-Benz. That said I bet these issues will be resolved for the 2016 MY, but MB is going to take a beating in all the quality surveys for 2015.

hahahahhahah.... wow... this is a new low for MB. That said I'm still VERY suspicious that this is a dealer problem and not a factory problem. I would think this would be incredibly difficult for a factory to screw up. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if the dealer damaged and repaired prior to selling the car.

Looks like It came from the factory like that, a body shop would have paid closer attention and likely additional damage would show if they were that sloppy.

Lol what?

Chrome strips is either adjacent to the doors (one side) or they are on the bottom.

The Luxury and standard trim has the door adjacent design. The Sport trim has the bottom chrome strip design (it's a much fatter piece of chrome).

My german made GLK had the same issue. The front interior door panels are not the same. The driver side panel did not come with the LED ambient lights on it and the passenger side had them. Although the car did not come with the interior ambient lighting package somehow someone at the factory was sleeping and slapped the wrong door panel to my car. Although you will not see it and will only notice if you detail and look inside the door pulls on the panels you will not notice them. My dealer was shocked to see this and although it was not a big deal to me as long as it does no light up to them it was a PR nightmare. They did ended up replacing the door panel without a fuzz but the head office needs to be involved as they want to trace the problem back to the factory and make sure not only the door panel is the problem with my car.

I finally spoke with someone who seems like he will fix the issue. However we had a disagreement as to which side we should change. He's saying the factory should have produced the car with the trim that doesn't have chrome and he's proposing making both sides like that. However I sort of got used to the chrome trim on the driver side of the car.

What do you guys think I should do? Is the chrome rocker panel more desirable than the non-chrome one? One thing that might help tip the decision is to know which is more expensive, if any.

I would welcome your thoughts.

Finally got rid of the car last month. I left the dealership after having left the car there for 4 weeks to fix a few issues, two of which were still there when I picked it up, so I drove straight from MB to another dealership to get a new car. This was my first MB product and will likely be my last. I had never had a car in the shop so much before this one. In addition to the mismatched body panels which took four visits to the dealer to get fixed, here are a few things that broke down and got replaced:

- Fuel injectors that broke and were leaking fuel all over the engine, creating a nice fire hazard
- Rear shock absorbers, twice, due to leaking
- Air suspension system, which was also leaking, letting the car drop down on 3 of the 4 wheels when parked for more than one day
- Transmission torque converter, to try to fix a shuddering sound when downshifting from 4th to 3rd. But of course the torque converter had nothing to do with this so it was all for nothing and the shuddering sound persisted
- GPS system incapable of pronouncing street names or contact names in French - MB said this was a known bug and that they had no fix for it. And would never have one.
- Rattling sounds coming from the back of the cabin and the rear suspension. Those were fixed a few times but always came back.
- Etc.

The one fabulous thing about the C400 was the engine. Then again, I have a more powerful one now.

Good riddance.
