woah! that's terrible. Did you tell them that maps came with 3 years free updates? I guess this should be taken up with MB corporate.
It's such a rip off that after paying so much the maps lack detail and doesn't have all the info though it's Garmin maps(?) while a $100 garmin GPS can do much better.
Also not to forget the simplicity of updating maps on the handy GPS device, taking the car to the service center for map updates is such an over kill!

"...This is the perfect combination of performance, convenience, and premium customer service."
I fail to see how taking it to customer service is "performant", "convenient" or "premium"!

I have subscription with MB apps and the whole multimedia thing. When I purchased it last year it said free updates and not just the 2015. Any experience with this? The only thing I didn't renew was XM since I get it in my iPhone as an XM app and plays it thru BT. Part of the family XM plan on my 2015 escalade platinum and 2013 Range Rover Sport. But the map update just bums me out.

Update! So was on the phone with MB corporate customer service and true enough he confirmed it using my VIN. It should have been covered for a free update and should have been done no question asked.

Yes map updates are free if you have prepaid maintenance.

Sorry, but I don't think you are correct. Map updates come with the Multimedia package for 3 years. It doesn't matter whether you have prepaid service or not.

The Multimedia package, which costs $2690, includes the following in the US:
  • Rearview camera
  • COMAND hard-drive navigation with 8.4-inch screen
  • 3 years of navigation map updates
  • Voice control
  • SiriusXM Traffic and Weather with 3 years of service
  • 10GB Music Register
  • Gracenote media database

I just had my car in the dealer today and asked again for the map update. Again they said no updates are out this year. My 2012 Tundra has more updated maps than my 2015 MB. Pretty sad.

Dealers seem to be fibbing, as Vipershade has a newer version on his recent build.

When in Navigation Mode:

Go to -> Options (Bottom left corner)
Go to -> Map Content
Go to -> Map Version

Is it different than "2014/2015 (V4.0) N.AMERICA"? Thanks for looking!

So MB values their 3 complimentary map updates at nearly $750!!!!

I have a windshield mounted Garmin bought in January 2012 that came with 4 free updates per year for life, which I do update every 3 months. I just plug the Garmin into the PC and off it goes. So far I have had 15 updates and it pains me that my 2012 Garmin carries more accurate mapping than my 2015 MB.

This whole Garmin Map Pilot product is frustrating. I just checked last week (using Download Manager) and it shows no update available to me (N America). My SD card shows 2015 v 4.x. Obviously there is a v5.1 N America. I sent an email to my dealer contact to see what they say.

Still using Google and/or Apple Maps as it is a quantum leap better than the Garmin Map Pilot...

+1 And the Garmin shows speed limits (Cdn COMAND Navi doesn't... not sure about US), shows altitude (useful in mountains), has rudimentary traffic display and I trust it. It's only steered me wrong once in 4 years (and not by far). Not sure I trust COMAND Navi yet, so I'm planning to run my Garmin in parallel to COMAND on my next long trip.

P.S... Google Maps and Garmin both tell me the drive to Toronto is 4 hours; COMAND says 4 1/2 (in reality it's usually close to 4 hours excluding stops). Two points:

- Clearly COMAND has speed information in it, but they won't display it (I continue to wonder why)
- Should I assume the ETA's are all conservative? It'll be interesting to compare the two as I travel with both systems

Why is MB screwing us around when the MY16 clearly has a newer map version?

My local MB dealer asked me to bring my car in to confirm what Garmin Map Pilot map version I have. And I'm hoping they will see I have an old version and somehow update it...since download manager doesn't seem to want to. I'm very interested to see what they say.

Can anyone comment on what the latest Navigation version is. I am taking my 2005C400 in for service next week, and I need to tell them what version is available or they will blow me off.

Two weeks ago my dealer said my version 7 maps were the most current update available even though the loaner 2017 C300 had version 8. My guess is that update version 8.XX will be available soon.

I was told by my dealership that NAV map updates are based on the vehicles VIN #...and that the latest version for my 2016 C450 is version 6.0 (North America).

I've had two updates already. Both times the dealer said either they don't provide free updates or that there were no updates available. Both times I was able to point to this forum to educate the dealer. It's amazing that dealers nationwide don't seem to understand this process.

I was at a Dealer last month on Long Island, NY and the salesman and sales manager were insisting that although there was an option listed for $250 for a heated steering wheel on a 2016 c300 they said it was incorrect. Well my 2016 that I just purchased that already had 12,000 miles on it, has it! I was amazed something as simple as that and they refused to investigate it.
