Life without the multimedia package
1. How about the Apple iOS Carplay?
2. I can ditch the NoteEdge and buy an iPhone if that is available now and equally good to android's capability?
3. You said, "no android auto announced yet for MB". Who is responsible for building it, Mercedes or Google?
4. When built, would its functionality be equal to the functionality one will get without the multimedia package?

i was hoping it would be out by the time i was ready to get a new car, but Mercedes has dropped the ball on this front.
Apple and Google have already released this technology, it is up to the manufacturers to implement it however/whenever they choose. Ferrari is the only car manufacturer to have CarPlay on their production cars, Chevrolet seems to be very close to releasing a whole lineup of cars with CarPlay. Android Auto is in the same boat, almost no availability yet

And then another weird thing, I came across an Android auto advert showing the Mercedes joystick (or whatever that thing is called) as part of their demo that how easy it is to use.
This all makes me scratch my head!
They will launch it when they can see a way of making more gro$$.

I think the industry as a whole has been holding back on adopting CarPlay until Apple gets it working the way the manufacturers want it working. Early adoption is a PR advantage, but it also risks customer frustration if the system does not do what people expect it to do.
