Installing Air Freshner

I bought a used 2015 C300 with Air Balance package.

The Air Freshner "bottle" is in the dash but does not seem to be properly installed. I am afraid to try something and break it. What is the correct way to install it. Picture, text or link to video help would be very much appreciated.

If you don't have the User manual, it's online and does include directions for the Air Freshener system. Here's a link:

Thank you. Looks like i may have been doing it right. I was expecting some sort of secure "locking in" of the bottle. I have now only kept it "as far back as possible" and will hope it works.

Yesterday it had dislodged from its place and that made me think that it was not secure and I did something wrong.

There is a little silver magnet on top of fragrance canister. Mine broke off, and was attached to the top of the mount, allowing the bottle to shift, fall out etc. A little super glue later, the magnet and the bottle stay put

You will hear the mechanism raise and lower as you open and close the glovebox if all is well.

That must be it. That quarter sized magnet was at the bottom stuck in the center making me wonder what it was there for. So now my canister is sitting on top of it. So am I supposed to superglue it to the top of the canister in the center?

I do hear the mechanism when I start the freshener and the glove box is closed. So no mechanical issues hopefully.

Whoops. Don't do that!

You are right. It should be on the bottom of the canister. I misremembered, did this in Dec last year and haven't looked at it since. I glued it to the BOTTOM of the canister.

I've just been to the car to check for you. There is indeed a small silver disc glued to the bottom of the scent jar.

When inserting the jar it's quite clearly pulled into position with a magnet.

Thanks Rusty. No damage done. Was going to play with it tonight.

Thanks so much for your time. I have that disc and it is stuck to the base of the "jaw". It is not attached to the canister/scent jar currently. I will attach it to the bottom of the canister and then that should keep it in place.

I have a few refills that the original owner did not use. Is there one with new car smell?
