The car is back with me, acoustic glass fitted. I've not had chance to test it at speed yet, but just the commute home showed a huge difference in exterior noise penetrating the car. Here's the new rather odd double pane glass;

That's the first positive feedback I have seen yet on the wind noise issue.
Thanks for sharing. Please keep us posted.

I priced the acoustic glass at my dealer in NorCal. With a 5% MBUSA club discount, about $115 each. Talked to the service manager and he quoted 2.5 hours for install. I'm going to wait a little longer to see if this wind noise recognition paper actually materializes. If not, I'm going to pay for the acoustic upgrade myself. It's a joke that such an otherwise fine car should suffer from wind noise.

My loaner is a POS CLA250 and the car is almost silent (aside from tire/road noise which is WAY worse) up to about 100mph much to my annoyance.
With MBUSA, this paper could be formal recognition that the wind noise is a "design characteristic", which is MBUSA speak for "tough luck, sucker!"

Really hope I'm wrong and MB finally steps up and fixes the problem. But, somehow that just seems too much like right.

So I took the car up to high speeds today on the motorway. I'm pleased to say that the buffeting and whooshing noise around the A pillars is now at a level that pretty much merges with any other wind noise (under windy conditions) all around the car. The worst of the wind noise is now around the roof area, presumably due to my car being the estate (wagon for all you colony types) with a larger roof area, roof rails and pano roof. The noise is now at a liveable, fairly normal level.

Edit: with one minor caveat. I note now that at high speed, when opening and closing the Windows, there is a momentary whistle. Presumably due to the double panes of glass.

So guys, been having some issues with my first s205, but non of them with wind noise.

It ended with me doing a deal with the dealer. And I bought a brand new s205 which I picked up yesterday. I was so happy!

Drove it yesterday, it was raining and everything felt really good! Today it's a sunny day and dry. Guess what? Wind noise from hell, from around 40-45ph I can hear it clearly. And at above 60-70mph I really have to crank the stereo up not to hear it. So freakin disappointed

Do you guys have any part number for the glass? Or those of you who have changed could maybe give me their vin number so my dealer could check this. Cause they've had problems with customers complaining about this. But they've never sorted this out..

God damn, I'm so disappointed

ZSH, thanks buddy! Saw that but I didn't really think that was the glass as he wrote "pane", but he probably ment panel, and it sounded almost to cheap. But thats probably it

It is more common though to refer to a window pane as a single panel in a multi panel window usually seen on less modern homes.

Ask for the acoustic glass. I didn't have to fight, I simply asked and they put in the new glass. It has made a huge difference. My only remaining gripe on the car remains the snatchy gearbox.

I have had the exact same two problems. The 2nd gear clunk problem is now fixed - good for two weeks now - only minor irritation is that the change is quite snatchy in Sport+ mode - seems like it was deliberately programmed this way, hardly use this mode anyway.

Called to the MB dealer service rep yesterday (I've been waiting for him for two weeks now) and he says that MB issued a bulletin on ~19 Oct to address the wind noise; he didn't have the details at the time but car is booked in for 2nd Nov - I'll post when I have more info.

I keep being told the snatchy d1/d2/d3 changes are due to adaptation. Car has 4000 miles. Sceptical.

Latest sw installed, my checked eeprom data, found ok. Its unacceptable to me, the diesel loaner didn't do it, lovely and smooth. Why can't they get it right on the petrol?!

bulletin - acoustic glass

Thanks for posting, turning out to be a great thread, hopefully more happy owners.

Google translate doesn't really do a good job, but it looks like the first few steps are checking that everything is seated properly, then the final step is replacement with "Acoustic Pack" if the noise is still there after a test drive. The part numbers in the bulletin are exactly the same as you posted earlier for the acoustic glass, so good to know the "acoustic pack" is actually acoustic glass.

YEEES!! I didn't hear anything in my first S205, but this new one, OMG. Its driving me crazy. Its just like my windows aren't fully closed. If I lower my windows just a tiny bit, the noises are almost the same.

Now I just have to make them fix this ASAP as I have a 1000km travel for work in 1,5 weeks. And its almost just highways. This **** really is driving me crazy, and I only had the new car for 3 days.

Do you know if acoustic windshield is same as regular windshield, no need for different frame or seals?
