2015 Mercedes C400
Cool no more C400!

that's a bit absurd, is that because they found it to have issues?

I was just browsing as usual the mbusa.com site (and build cars), and surprised to see that there is no more C400, and the only other options is the C450.

Well, that's kinda bad, because what does that mean for my car .

C450, GLS 63 and a few other things
Mercedes decided there wasn't room in the lineup for a C400 and C450, so they dropped the C400 in favor of the C450. This was announced a number of months ago.

You can continue to enjoy the car you bought and get it serviced as always. Resale may be impacted, but to what extent no one can say for sure. You have a nice car, don't worry.

(And I'm holding out hope this thread doesn't turn into the usual C400 C450 comparisons).

This should give you an idea of the potential value of a C400. I have been shopping to trade my September 2014 build C400 (8500 miles) for a C450. My C400 was sticker priced at $63,045. The C450 I built on the MB site has a sticker price of $66,300. They are essentially equally equipped. The out the door price to make the swap has been about $23,000 so far. The dealer says that equates to $43,000 for the C400 and a 3% discount on the C450. I've just started comparing dealers and negotiating. I'm not sure yet how much I would be willing to spend to make this deal. I'll wait to see what other offers I get.

I'm just curious, but why would you want to take such a huge loss in one year? What will you do, if the 2017 model year reveals a C470 over the C450?

I probably won't do a deal like this. I was just curious and wanted to check out my options. I actually love my C400, but my wife really wants the 360 camera. Probably not worth $23,000 for a 360 camera though.

I'm not one to judge. Trust me. I once bought a Lexus LS400. Got rid of that living room sofa on four wheels within 6 weeks and took a huge bath doing so. But I truly didn't like any aspect of driving that car and couldn't see myself behind the wheel of it with any satisfaction.

I've also traded up the Mercedes ladder multiple times when a newer version was introduced. For example, when they went from the SLK230 to the SLK320 only a few months after getting the 230. So I've certainly lost more than enough trading over the years.

But I'm a bit older now and hopefully a bit more cautious spending my hard earned dollars and in the case of the C400 vs the C450, the value of diminishing returns is in full force here.

So yes, $23K for a 360 camera seems like a really bad deal.

Yeah, $23K would be kind of stiff... the parts for surround view come in at right around $4K.

In the US there still is no 360 camera at least I didnt see it in the options. If you want to update your C400, 2000 bucks will give you a faster car than the 450 plus no speed limiter thanks to Renntech. BTW top speed goes to 150 plus, I haven't had a chance to go any faster. If you have the air suspension I don't think the magnetic one will be a big difference, nor will 10% more rear bias. Basically a refresh with more AMG stickers and an even higher price. One thing I do hope for the C450 and 300, for that matter, is better initial reliability. As we are all aware there have been more than expected minor issues. Squeaky cold brakes, sweaty seats, bad door seals, bad audio systems, faulty air suspensions, faulty keyless systems, chattery wipers, mostly useless self parking and those are only the ones I have had or can remember from other posters. Luckily, the drivetrain has been flawless.

I definitely love my C400, but thinking about possible support, I'd be a bit worried, and again from a resale perspective, it would take a good hit

it's good to know where we stand for sure, the 360 is definitely good to have, but not 23K worth.
Should have waited I guess , which would have been forever :P

I hear a vibration from my side of the car when I'm driving and it's really annoying. took it to the dealership twice, and both times they said they couldn't reproduce it, although the second time, the noise stopped for a while and now it's back again.
There seems to be quite some bugs in the software too and some working principles are annoying.
for example, when I try to get my wiper on to clean the windshield, rather than spraying first and then turning on the wiper, it starts the wiper, makes a loud screeching noise (and possibly scratch the windshield too).
hit the fan all the way to 0, switch the car off, and try to bring up the fan, wouldn't work, unless I switch the AC on, would have expected better from MB.

I wouldn't worry about resale or support. MB is pretty good on support for discontinued cars and the parts most likely to break are in the C300. The C400 was really a C300 with larger and heavier engine. Dealer was unloading the last of their C400s new at over 18%msrp months ago. The C400 was not a popular seller or reviewed car to say the least.

Enjoy your C400, if it fits your needs then it is the perfect car for you, and resale won't matter....when C450 AMG comes, can always trade up if you wish, but the C400 sold at higher discounts off MSRP to get them off the lots to begin with too, so hopefully you got a deal when you purchased new to help out.

That's the exact opposite of what my research showed me on both of my C300 purchases...the C400 was difficult to find and dealers weren't nearly as flexible on price as they were with the C300.

If I owned a C400 I wouldn't spend a second of my time worrying about my car being "obsolete", it's not like Mercedes discontinued the W205 platform...relax, you'll be fine.

Is it actually possible to add a surround view system to a car without it? Would a MB dealer do it?

It's definitely doable.

Besides the four cameras, there is three additional pieces for the each mirror and the front grille, and then a wiring harness for each camera. If you have the rear view camera, some of the parts can be reused; however, the rear camera itself has a different part number.

There is also a control unit, switch block, bracket, and nut/washer assembly. 20 pieces total...something like that depending on what can be reused.

I will most likely give this a go... I wasn't real big on any of the after market setups. If/when I do, I'll probably make a video of the install.

Not sure if a dealer would add this...I can see that being dependant upon the dealer (some might and some might say no). That might come down to your relationship with the dealer.

the performance itself, is really nice... love the car. Just that something newer around the corner would always trigger your instincts to get one

Is there any reason to drop the C400?
This is a fairly new engine, right? I recall the M112, M272 engines lasted a few years in MB lineups.

That's why they put the exact same engine in the C450. The only difference from the C400 to C450, regarding the engine, is the ECU tune.

I actually think the C400 should hold up pretty well in the secondary markets (and possibly including the dealer)

a lot of people will still want that V6, and don't want to pay up to the new C450 "amg" version of the car with a lot more options and much more sport buyer offering
