Question iOS 9 (Carplay news?)

Hi there,

I just saw a new settings entry about CarPlay after upgrading to iOS 9.
Anyone tested it with a new C-Class?

I'm curious but can't test it right now. Maybe at last we will be able to read/write SMS and talk with Siri without touching the iPhone...

Thanks

Doesn't the car have to be CarPlay enabled for this to work?

The c class manual has included the following for a while, but I've never been able to get it to work with my C class and iPhone 6

Voice recognition is not CarPlay. On my car, voice recognition works fine with my iPhone 6.

CarPlay software is not part of the COMAND system at this time. MB delayed it indefinitely after first announcing that they would support it. A future software update may add it, but that is conjecture at this point.

Unless Apple has done something truly miraculous with IOS 9, your C-Class vehicle will not recognize CarPlay and will not bring up the Apple CarPlay menu on your screen.

Car Play is coming out in the 2017 E Class. Not that that helps any of us with a C.

It's already available in the new Mercedes A class.
You can check it by configuring at German or Italian configurators, e.g.

It's an opcional of about 400$.

I would gladly pay $400 to have Car Play in my 2016 C Class........

Sorry, think I wasn't being particularly clear with my point here.

The current c class manual suggests you should be able to do this already, although I've never been able to do this.

This is subtlety different to using linguatronic, which I've never had any problems using with my iPhone...

The wireless CarPlay option is in general settings on the iPhone. It won't work with the c class as others have said. C class does not have CarPlay yet.

Nor can I get it to use Siri via the speech button being held down on the steering wheel even though my dealer can aparrently get it working in their cars.

It's going to be checked when it goes in for its new acoustic glass retrofit.

So to get mobile voice recognition, just pair phone via bluetooth and hold voice button on steering wheel for 1 second and Siri is activated?

That's what the manual says buy it doesn't work in my March 15 build.

Just tried it in mine earlier, didn't work either. Someone mentioned the phone has to be connected to Command Online. Is this separate from bluetooth? how do we do this?

According to Mercedes own manual connecting to command online is done simply through Bluetooth connection. I've tried to use this feature via Bluetooth as well as through a direct USB connection to the car neither work.

Same, never been able to get Siri voice recognition to work via the steering wheel, disappointing as that's the main thing I'd like to have for dictating messages/emails on the go.

Acoustic glass - is that a freebie and how did you manage that?

So as not to derail this topic...

Look for my recent topic 'another getting acoustic glass'.

I've never got Siri to come up when holding the button for more than one sec. All I get is the mercedes voice recognition system, not my iphone's.

My dealer tech guy says he can't get Apple Car Play to work either. He emailed MB so I'm still waiting results. He thinks we may need to go in for a software upgrade to make Car Play work. There are several videos on YouTube showing Car Play in the C300 so I don't get what the problem is.

CarPlay IS NOT AVAILABLE for the C class. The video you refer to was a tech demo on a pre release car.

When it is available, do you think it will be part of Audio20 or COMAND?

I would hope Mercedes would offer an upgrade to existing cars for CarPlay. I read one article from more than a year ago, where Mercedes said they would offer a CarPlay module for existing cars, but that was then and there really hasn't been much word from MB since.
