"Clunk" Noise after driving 40 meters

Hi Crew,

Been reading this forum now for a while. Very new C200 owner, 2015 July Build, 1300km on the clock.

Irridium Silver with Pano roof and ILS. Love the car.

One thing that concerns me though, is that after driving about 40m, there is a "clunk" noise that appears to come from the engine bay area, which is quite loud. As if something is being struck.

As the car is so quiet, it is easily noticeable. Quite unnerving. Any ideas what it could be?

Does not seem to affect the handling of the vehicle, or cause any unwanted alerts etc.

Anyone else notice it?

C200 Petrol. Australian vehicle.

Other than that all fantastic, well except getting a dash cam wired up reliably using the fuse/electrical box in the passenger foot well. But that is another story.

Also dealer says that an oil change is NOT required after the first 1500km. Should I get it done any way?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I new I would get the answers here.

Thank You.

Not sure anyone can diagnose a clunk sound, so you should take it to your dealer to let them see.

Glad you're loving the car.

And no, it is not necessary to change the oil at 1500km. They don't use break-in oil anymore so once a year or every 16000km is all that is necessary.

On my US car, upon initial start up when I reach 32 MPH the abs initializes and makes a clunk sound. It's a lot more noticeable than on my last C class and this may be what it is.

I have a C200 petrol (estate) and I don't hear this noise. Car is silent at normal speeds other than a rather gravelly unpleasant 4 cyl engine note.

Thank you all for the replies. Will definitely take it to the dealership and ask them to look at it.

Just unnerving to hear it.

ManiacGT, I must agree on the engine note. About the only thing I am disappointed with. Having only test drove the C250, with it's slightly greater output (only C-class they had to test drive), it did not sound too bad.

I was surprised that the engine and exhaust sound was average, even in sport+ mode on the C200.

I take it the C200 does not change the exhaust note in sports+ ??

We traded in a BMW 116i, smaller 1.6L Twin Scroll Turbo engine with single exhaust and it sounded better.................. its only redeeming feature though.

Thanks again for the replies.

Cheers
