US version C class 2015 sports line

overhead display installation

hi All,
i am thinking of installing the overhead display, my car has almost all the options with the exception of the overhead display. i read on some forum that it costs around $900 to install it at any benz dealership so wanted to ask you guys if any had installed it and if this cost sounds right. also wanted to know where will they install the activate button

It cost around $900 as an option so I doubt it will be the same as retrofit. I don't even know if the OEM OHD could be added after delivery. Good option if you could get it. Let us know how it work out.

$900 to retrofit - they are having a laugh!

For a start, you will need a new dashboard (the HUD has a massive hole in the top of the dash) - when I got a quote for my E89 BMW, 3 years ago, it was £1800 (€3500) then. Add to that you will need the HUD itself, replacement windscreen, switch and coding - I am not sure if the HUD is driven by a discrete Control Unit, or off another existing Control.

Add that lot together and you are looking at €000s before you add any Labour. If you want a HUD that desperately, it'll probably be cheaper to trade.

Your quoted price looks accurate. The system consistes of a unit which sits on top of the dash. They are cheaper now as more after market ones for any car are available just like sat navs years ago! Part no is shown as A166 906 1402.

Not worth it. I find the digital screen on the instrument cluster to be enough.

When optioned it was a in for a penny in for a pound decision but i actually find it very very good and much better than looking at the display not least because the scale for kms is a tad congested. Navigation instructions inc a distance countdown in your eyeline while you are also looking at the road work much better and i think it is a much safer system.......but that is the factory fit system. However from the catalogue it looks as if the mercedes add on does connect to the nav system so would be as good unlike some of the cheaper aftermarket sets.

I found the HUD as a "cool to have" but not a "must have". I found there is nothing it does that the info screen and the dash can't tell you. Half the time I forgot it was even there especially when wearing polarized sunglasses.
