C450 Acceleration Testing
I will probably start testing my C450 in a couple of weeks. For those who are interested in this thread I suggest you search how C&D,and MT test their cars.I found both methods as follows:
C&D- Search for"How does C/D test cars"
MT- Search for""testing,testing-the motor trend way"
You will find how thorough they are in correcting for atmospheric conditions. When I conduct my tests I don't have the ability to make these corrections.I will post my actual numbers. In cold weather(under 60F) my numbers will probably be faster than the magazines,in hot weather(above 60F)my numbers will be slower than the mags.I will state the temps when I test and run in both directions on the same road to cancel out any elevation changes and post both numbers. The weather is turning cold here so I expect pretty good numbers. I will leave it up to the posters weather they want to believe them or not.

Nice, thanks for the contribution
I'm gunna lay this out there, take it as you will, if you come back with a 3.9 second 0-60 then I'm walking away, but I won't knock you, lol
Jk.... How many miles will you have in 2 weeks

If I get a 3.9 I'll walk away.Seriously I expect a low 4 sec time, because the temps should be below 60F here in November.I will have more than 1000 miles on it by then.

First Acceleration Runs
I made 2 runs today using my test equipment and the results are as follows:
Run 1 North Run 2 South
Max speed 99.2 100.2
HP at crank 363 369
0-100 --- 10.25
0-90 8.57 8.38
0-80 6.93 6.78
0-70 5.50 5.43
0-60 4.27 4.20
0-50 3.20 3.17
0-40 2.33 2.30
0-30 1.55 1.55
0-20 .87 .88
0-10 .25 .25
1000" 10.58 10.63
1/8 mile 8.23 at 86.5 mph 8.18/87.4 mph
330' 5.38 5.35
60' 1.92 1.93
I will let the results speak for themself. The weather conditions were ideal,45F and low humidity. The major magazines would apply a correction factor to my results to slightly increase the times.I doubt it would be more than .1 or .15 sec.I predict that the magazines will have times between 4.3 and 4.4 sec to 60 mph.I expect some doubters on this site, but I am confident that these times will prove to be accurate.I compared my timer to the NHRA sanctioned dragstrip timer(Maple Grove,Pa) and proved to be very accurate.Note that the HP figure is almost right on to the factory numbers.

Sorry I am an old codger(75).I still have a camera that takes film, not even a didgital camera.I am willing to stand up to any scrutiny.I have more than 40 years drag racing experience and know how to get the best out of a car. This is the easiest car I ever owned to get a good start. No wheelspin at all with the AWD.I brake torquedto about 2000 rpm and mashed the gas .

Wow. I apologize in the other thread started by the C400 owner regarding 0-60 times. You perhaps are right in terms of hp and numbers difference.
Either way these numbers seem to confirm what I expected this car to do...108mph traps~
Thanks Sir

"No need to worry about any of the assist settings being off or on. Just mash the gas from a stop and you're off. The 4Matic system will handle the rest. You will see differing opinions on this. But with AWD you don't need to worry about wheel spin which is why some guys mess with those settings. Even factory race drivers find the car to be faster with the aids on."
And when I mentioned the possibility of lag:
"It would be smart to brake torque the engine for a launch. Hold the brake pedal, bring the engine up to 1500-2000 RPM by holding the throttle at around 10% and then mash the gas and release the brake at the same time."
So I think you hit that right on the mark...very nice, thanks for posting this.

Apology accepted.I think more like 110 in the full 1/4.My 550I picked up 22 to 23 mph after the first 1/8 ,but was only going 82 mph.I know my 450C is faster at the top end,and if I add 23 mph to the 87 on my second run I get 110 mph.The road I test on has a curve on both sides of my test area and requires heavy braking if I run a full 1/4.I still like this road because there are no intersections or driveways.

Oldman, wow, 110+ mph traps (with with you are saying perhaps ~ 112) are solid out of the box. That would be very impressive...a nice ECU flash on this and the car has some serious potential if the above is true.
Curious, what would you say this car makes to the wheels, I guestimated around 300whp and 320wtq?

I ran my c400 pre tune 32 weeks ago and got the following numbers stock:
1/8 mile 8.673 at 83.03 mph
60' 2.072
330' 5.686
1/4 mile. 13.419 at 103.74mph
Hopefully I get to take her out before season is over in a week or two and have comparison numbers then. Look forward to seeing more C450's out there. Hopefully I get to run one sooner than later.

Numbers are matching the increase in HP in the 450. I assume my tuned c400 is around the same as a stock c450 but I havent had the chance to take it to the dragstrip. I would love to find an owner in Atlanta that would like to run me at the track for comparison.

Estimated 1/4 ET
I just did some math calculations to estimate my 1/4 time based on the 1000' time of 10.63 sec.As I stated previously, the road I test on has 2 curves in my test area so full 1/4 runs require major braking.Based on my 0-100 time of 8.18,I estimate my speed at 1000' to be about 105 mph.At 105 mph I am traveling at 154 '/per sec.I have 320' left to travel to finish the 1/4.If I divide 320 by 154 I get 2.078 sec.If I add 2.078 to my 1000' time of 10.63 I get an estimated time of 12.71 sec for the 1/4.I know this is not precise, but even a few mph diff at 1000' does't make a big diff in my estimate.

Currently running 41 psi.I see no reason to change at this time.I am getting no wheelspin.I will eventually change to conti DWS all season non runflats. This may help the times as they are lighter by about 3 lbs per tire.
