So what do you hate about your W205?
I've already commented on what I dislike about my car but I failed to mention the navigation system. in my Audi and Chrysler I can set an address as my home and when I want to navigate to it from anywhere all I have to do is press the "Go Home" button. Not so in MB. Ugh.
Also, if set your home address as a favorite, all you have to do is hit the star button, then click it and that's it. really simple

i'm not a big fan of the illuminated star, but i considered trying a few led's to backlight behind the grill... a faint glow behind the awesome grill (top & bottom) may look fantastic without appearing cheesy... i'll try it and see how it looks...
- I always wear my seat belt, even if going a few feet (it's just habit, but a good one anyway)
- I love the Burmester Sound system
- The C300 has plenty of power for me
- It's sublimely comfortable
- I'm happy when I'm behind the wheel and if there was one thing I could change would be to be able to be there more often
-the darn gear shifter.
why the hell did they need to have the gear lever on the steering column.........
I have 3 issues with this:
1) i'm too used to having my right hand resting on a shifter in the middle of the car.........now I always accidentally get on the touchpad and change things without even knowing......
2) my infiniti had the wiper blade control on the right side, just where the gear shifter is on my current benz. the first week of ownership was a nightmare. it rained the whole week, and i'm used to just turn the lever to wipe once. now guess what happened when I did that on my benz while on the highway? I changed gear to neutral LOL. I was like WTF when I pressed on the gas and car wouldn't go.
3)when going to the auto car wash...............almost no one knows how to put the car into neutral. Even I had trouble at the beginning. very un-necessary way to put car on neutral. they could have made it 100x simpler by just making it mechanical like 70's and 80's cars.
besides that.......I still love when I open the door and get on it everyday after work. best part of my day

Other things I don't like:
- the Command system screen is a joke compared to the F15 X5 iDrive screen
- if I'm in S+ and I turn off the car, I wish it would stay in the last setting I had
- Park Assist has yet to work properly. I saw some videos that park assist can reverse into parking spots, however it can only do parallel parking. Maybe it's not available in Canada??? I haven't tried park assist to parallel park yet
- I wish they had more colour options for the ambient lighting...I would have loved that deep blue or red found in the S class.
- would have preferred a digital display for the driver, like the one in the S and E class.
....

Switching patterns of control can indeed lead to dangerous situations. When I took European delivery of my W203 C280 in Sept. 2006, it was the first automatic transmission car I had owned. I had driven many automatic transmission rental cars, including in the Stuttgart neighborhood where my wife and I were staying. I had been there many times, so I was familiar with every street, including a notorious tunnel in the area. (The Heslacher Tunnel, for those of you who have been there.) On the 2nd full day that I had the W203, I came out of that tunnel at about 40 mph. I was ready for the road first dipping and then rising steeply and curving to the left, almost like a roller coaster. (German limited access highways can be just as hilly and curving as two-lane roads.) I was not ready for the large bulk carrier 18-wheeler that was just starting up the hill at about 20 mph. But there was no other traffic, so all I had to do was pull into the left lane and pass him.
However, my previous car would have required a down-shift to make the hill. My instincts took over, and I tried to down-shift the automatic transmission as if it were a manual! All I succeeded in doing was shifting into neutral, and I had no idea how to get back into gear while in motion. I had visions of grinding the gears, if I just shifted into Drive. At this point, my mind was made up for me, as another car came out of the tunnel behind me. He was flying, but, fortunately, almost all German drivers are very good drivers. (The others cannot pass the test.) Also, I had done one thing right. I already had my flashers on. I had previously checked out the location of my hazard flashers, so I could immediately stab my flashers as soon as I had a problem. The flashers of the bulk carrier were also on. Therefore, the German driver had what he needed to immediately analyze the situation. He simply swerved into the left lane and accelerated up the hill. I had to come a complete stop behind the bulk carrier, re-start the engine (which I had somehow shut down), and pull out into the left lane to pass.

(My W205 reversed the positions of the multi-function stalk for the lights and wipers and the stalk for the cruise control controls. After 14 months, I am still making bogus turn signals when I mean to adjust the set speed of the cruise control.)

Now.....
Lets be damn honest. The C300 is overpriced to hell and back. there i said it.
for what you get as standard features VS the competition (mainly japanese luxury) is very substandard.
I mean, no leather seats on a $40k car? this was shocking to me.
lexus and infiniti have come a long way since the 90s. they are knocking on the German's doors.
Lexus interiors are very soft and they actually include heated/vented seats on their premium package.
The mark levinson audio is much better than burmeister.
the resale value completely annihilates anything from Germany.
The ELECTRONICS are much more intuitive and don't have too many hiccups. The mobile apps actually WORK.
Reliability is night and day vs benz.
As for infiniti, for $40k you get luxury + a 300+ HP naturally aspirated engine (Q50). Compared to the 240hp engine in my C300........enough said.
I know i can go for the C450 if i wanted power, but at what cost?
so why did i choose benz over those 2?
Name brand value, thus PRESTIGE. history of mercedes-benz makes those 2 brands feel like "made in china". Benz has a 100+ year history of building some of the most iconic vehicles ever created by mankind. our cars continue this tradition on the FIT and FINISH and also refinement departments. The interior looks more premium, albeit not intuitive for the driver (the germans suck at this).
Don't get me wrong, i love my benz. i fell in love with the sport package looks, the interior and the fact i bought it with my hard earned dollars.
An IS350 is barely competitive with say 328i which it costs more than (a 328i will beat it in a straight line because that engine is so ancient) so its actually overpriced for what you get. Not to mention the interior isn't as nice as the germans (c'mon plastic inside door handles.... its the little things really.
Sure japanese reliability, but thats because they are running 10 year old engines.
Don't get me started on the Q50. Its a car running a platform that came out in 2004 the Fm and even the new Q60 is still on it (wheel base , is the same, exact thing carlos ghosn is getting his moneys worth because most people don't have the ability to know he's giving them stale bread and calling it fresh). I had a G35 coupe when it came out and it is basically the same car still other than the 3.7L VQ engine is so overbored that its raspy and actually sounds worse. The interior has slightly improved but its still is very plasticky and also plastic door handles etc. I mean sit in a new W205 or a B9 A4 and compare and its like night and day. Not to mention the steering feel on the Q50 is terrible.
The only Q50 that is remotely competitive with its mercedes equivalent (the new 2.0t is running a C250 engine, the older 3.7 V6 is running an ancient engine etc) is the Q50 red sport AWD and its maybe almost competitive with a C450. except its slower. and it still has the worse interior. and their totally digital steering is weird and has 0 feel. and a Q50 red sport AWD costs... what $2k less than a c450. And it even gets worse gas milage. So you just saved $2k to get a worse product , thats not really value.
I have owned japanese cars and german ones. Maybe the germans cost a bit more. but you are getting all the little things. for 5-10% more, if you are going to buy something luxurious you might as well get the one that is actually special because that is what luxury is. paying more for better, is not really a bad value. and if you are bothering why not. I mean if sirloin is $10 and ribeye is $13 , the $13 is a better value.
When I bought my first Mercedes (the W203 2007 C280 4matic shown in my Profile picture), I was in this position. I crossed-shopped BMW, Audi, and Lexus. My sentimental favorite marque was BMW, not Mercedes. (I learned to drive on a friend's BMW 1800TI. How many of you auto know-it-alls have ever heard of that model? Look it up!) The Mercedes was the only one on which I could reach the price. Superficially, this was because the automatic transmission that was $1500 extra on the BMW was standard on the Mercedes 4matic models. It was also true that that on the Mercedes, I could avoid the $1800 "mandatory option" sunroof package by taking European delivery in Stuttgart, a city where I was going anyway, for family reasons. However, it was just as correct to say that the base price of the Mercedes was $1500 less than the amount that would have put me out of the market.
Didn't really have a choice either since this vehicle was bought off the lot.
-Touch pad and dial. I know I can disable the touch pad, but why both.
-COMMAND screen has too much of an unused border around the screen. Couldn't they have made the screen bigger or the overall attachment, smaller?
-Gear selector on column.
-I know I am beating a dead horse with this one but BMW let's you turn off ECO Start/Stop permanently.
-Round AC vents with knob in the middle leave very limited options for phone clips.
Otherwise, I am about as happy as I can be with a car. I actually love it more each day which was the opposite experience I had with my last BMW.
-Touch pad and dial. So far, I am using the dial 100% of the time, NEVER use the touch pad. Maybe this will change over time?
-Gear shifter on column. I'd love to eliminate to touch pad and put the gear shifter on the center console.
-No ability to turn off ECO Start/Stop permanently. Maybe one day I'll get used to it and like it, but for now, when I forget to disable it, the sensation of stalling out at red lights gives me that split second feeling of panic, LOL.
Other than these minor items - LOVE the car!
"I'd love to eliminate to touch pad and put the gear shifter on the center console." Can't help you with this one!
"When I forget to disable [ECO Start/Stop], the sensation of stalling out at red lights gives me that split second feeling of panic, LOL."
I think you will get used to this, if you don't obsess about it. Easy for me to say -- in my Luxury trim C300, I don't hear the engine at idle, so I don't notice when it switches off! It usually doesn't switch back on, except in hot weather, at the longest lights. Ordinariy, the engine switches back on as a normal part of the process of accelerating from the stop. It is back on and pulling by the time I have completed depressing the acceleratior to the desired power level. I have seen comments that imply that this disengagement/engagement process is much more noticeable in Sport trim and AMG models. Luxury has its privileges! That's why they call it Luxury! I have also heard that the Luxury trims are the "standard" models in the markets outside Europe and N. America. As with the touchpad, MB is optimizing its products for these expanding markets.
