Collision Avoidance Gremlin

The wife's 2015 C-300 goes back to the service dept. for app. the 6th or 7th time for the collision avoidance system. You can be cruising at a steady speed, no cars, trees or center dividers and the beep goes off and the red triangle lights. One lady on the MBUSA hot line stated that the sensors are sensitive and this is normal. I say not, if the system keeps coming on there is a problem with the system. Her, MBUSA, solution is to just turn it off. Yep paid X amount of dollars for a safety system that should be turned off because it's too sensitive. Has anyone else experienced this problem. The dealer has been great but they are stumped.

Sure am. Didn't even have another car within 100 yards. Annoying as hell. Your in your ozone mode and beep. Besides, if it's going to go off every time you pass an inanimate object what good is it.

We have had a few complaints, but when asking they wasnt sure if they passed anything close by at the moment,
My system have made beeps too, but only when passing close to a post or similar, the system isnt surgically accurate and could indicate on close proximity objects, same gremlin appears in all "auto brake" featured cars.

I have never experienced beeps just out of the blue, and I have never heard of anyone that can make sure 100% that the road was completely clear.

My system does the same and it's not an issue to me at all. I'm glad it's sensitive. It keeps me alert and it's possible it will help me avoid something when I really need to avoid something.

I get the very occasional warning without any auto braking. I can't explain it most of the time, but it hasn't caused a problem. The system has actually worked as it should a couple of times when I could have been paying better attention; the warning came on and the seat belts tightened as the car in front of me stopped suddenly. I'm very happy with the system.

Auto brake happens very late in the process, first there is a visual (light) warning, second, light and audio, and third, auto brake.
Also the vehicle must be going faster than 7km/h for the auto brake to engage.

EQE 500 4MATIC replacing EQC 4matic AMG line P
I have had unexpected warning sounds from the system usually when negotiating entry or exit from roundabouts so i assume it picks up street furniture as potential obstacles to avoid. I have also had the occasional beep where i wondered what set it off but not enough for me to consider it an issue or fault. I wonder if rubbish, leaves or birds crossing low in front of the car could be picked up........but i hit a deer fully broadside onto the front of the car the other month and all that needed replacing was the plastic grills and no plate carrier still cost 820 euro mind! But i cannot remember having any time to brake so the car clearly reacted as from the damage to it and the poor deer who did die the impact speed was less than the 90k i had set the distronic too.
So for me the occasional random beep is something i can live with.

It happened to me a few times last week for the first time on my 1 month old 2016 C300 and hasn't happened since. There weren't other cars, objects or traffic signals around. I take the same route each morning to work. Will see if it happens again.

I've only heard the warning "beep" a hand full times, and only when I'm coming up too close to another vehicle...and not touching the brake pedal.

I would say in the past 2 months, my beep has gone off 20 times - 3 being actual warnings in the road..Even though it doesnt bother me, I have yet to find out what could possibly be triggering it.

Also, it only happens during the night.

Happens to me all the time on 1 particular stretch of road near my house. Happens about 90% of the time at the exact spot. Probably a sign that there is some haunted supernatural forces there.

Happens to me very occasionally. No braking, just a very loud beep and a bright red light. It always startles me, and it would freak a passenger. It seems to occur when there is absolutely nothing around, wide open, no poles, no nothing. That doesn't happen very often around here. It doesn't occur when there is all kinds of stuff. My guess is that when the machine doesn't see anything, it dials its sensitivity way, way up.

I swear mine has been set off by air. Some roadwork going on and a guy started some piece of equipment that blew a bunch of air out of its side at the front of my car and it just lit up. Just clear, moving air...

I had auto-brake engage once exiting a roundabout. The car in front was slowly exiting and I didn't brake as I had enough space to go behind it. But the car didn't think so
Anyway, I'm still ok with the system.
