I have a C300 with the stock audio system as a loaner this week. It's a bit of mess from a sound standpoint, but a lot of its shortcomings can be remedied with some good old fashioned equalization. It'll cost you $2.99 but I think you'll be happy with the results.
This fix presumes your music is local and on your Iphone or Ipod. The app does not process streaming or cloud based files. It also presumes you have an Apple device. (Similar programs are available for Androids)
The EQu app by Elephant Candy is available on the Apple App Store.
When you launch it the EQ is flat:
You create the EQ curve by touching the red line, which creates a control point (a green dot) and then moving it to position. Once you have something you like, it can be named and saved as a preset. This is the curve I got in the W205:
I included the COMAND settings for Treble/Mid/Bass that go with the particular curve in the title of the Preset, in this case Treble at 1, Mid -2, and Bass at 10. Balance and Fade are 0. This curve gives the bottom end more drive and power, and cuts back the harshness of the mids. The little dip at 4k gives the impression of a wider soundstage by pulling back that frequency and leaving more of the directional highs intact.
I'd encourage you to recreate this curve and save it, and then monkey around with it to get a more refined result for your taste and the type of material you normally listen to. If you're not familiar with EQ's, the frequency spectrum, low to high (bass to treble) is represented as the horizontal line. Pushing up the line on the left side increases bass, and the right increases treble. Pulling down in an area decreases those frequencies.
If you get a curve you like but inadequate volume, swiping up from the bottom of the screen drags the entire curve up at once, which increases volume. Feel free to post any questions.
do you have to always play your music through this app in order to resume the audio eq settings? i feel like if it could create a custom eq in your iDevice that would allow you to play all your local music using the custom eq settings, it would be totally worth it

This is a custom EQ in your IDevice that will allow you to play all of your local music through the custom EQ settings.
It has the same access to your local library that the native Apple music player has. The files do have to be actually local, not ITunes Match. But if you have actual AAC files on your IPhone this will play those through the custom EQ.
Give it a try and post your thoughts.
Also, watch the volume at first. This can overdrive the door Mids. In Settings (gear icon) under Headroom select "Safe" to start.
perfect, that's what i wanted to know, i'll give it a shot, im always disappointed in my audio quality. though that may be a number of factors, i'll see if this helps!
interesting, they say they cant play DRM protected music. a good 80% of my music has been bought via itunes which are all DRM...
however they have a version called Radio EQu...this looks like it will do the same for iTunes Music (which i use) and internet radio by Tunein (which i dont use)

Stuff purchased thru ITunes since 05 has no DRM. You should be fine. It plays my whole library and half easily was purchased thru ITunes.
yea the newer stuff is not DRM, but i have about 600 songs from before then i bought from itunes, though i think i can manage a few playlists that will work since theyre mostly post-2005

Apple will let you upgrade your old AAC DRM files to AAC Plus DRM Free at no charge!
I changed the set up a little. Some material was clipping. This is the curve and COMAND settings when automatic gain (Safe) headroom is selected in the app.
Yeah, it only works with your local library. Something to do with Apple not willing to grant developers access to the stream. It took forever for them to grant access to the local raw music files.
Ok, I have it running. You need a Premium Spotify account (I'm presuming you have one) and you launch Spotify by running the EQu app. It then logs in to your Spotify account, so the EQ app becomes your player.
You also need to pay the $2.99 to unlock the adjustable EQ function ( or it stays in a demo mode).
Hey Mike, thanks for helping out. I do have family premium but have same screen shot as urs but changing the settings doesnt do anything for me or my sound system.. I assume its a firmware issue...
