Has car shopping become like clothes shopping? - because that's what it seems like we're heading towards with Germany manufacturers.
I really like the look of the W205 C Class ( a lot ), but I can't see myself in a situation where I go into my car dealership and say
"Welll... uhmmm - that C Class is a lovely car, it almost fits, but a little tight around the waist don't you think?. Can I try the next size up please?" "Honey, does my bum look big in this?"
The new E Class, albeit a very nice car, looks really just like a C Class and somewhat like an S Class. If you were not a Mercedes enthusiast, you'd have a hard time picking the difference these days if one drove past (BMW lineup is just the same)
I get the fact that manufacturers want to create design harmony within their lineup, but is it all just getting a tad boring and predictable?

Although the E class proportions are just perfect in this particular design, I'm still considering the S class next time. Unless the E-Class Maybach makes it to production. Hopefully, they won't downgrade that to a Maybach-Line Wannabe version!

I guess I'm different. I truly love that the C, E and S class share such a familial resemblance that in some cases it's hard to tell them apart. Just because I can't afford an S Class, shouldn't put me behind the wheel of something that isn't as nice, just smaller and less expensive. I applaud Mercedes and BMW for doing this.

Unless you've lived under a rock, VW has been in the news a lot lately, for having the unmitigated gall to have put software in every single Diesel car they sell, across all lines, that fudged emissions tests worldwide. In the US they can't even sell a Diesel. The President resigned in disgrace (as he should have) and to this day, VW has yet to offer a solution to fix the problem. In fact, the US government, just last week has sued VW, because enough time has taken place since this was discovered and yet they are doing nothing for their customers.
That's why VW/Audi/Porsche will never get a dime from me as a customer.

Honda has hid airbags issues
Toyota software caused unintended acceleration
Ford has exploding tires
You run thru enough CEOs and middle managers in your company, eventually one will try something dirty to get promotion. I won't penalize anyone over it as long as their products meet my standard.
Back on topic, the current styling language of Mercedes look better the longer the body goes.

I didn't even think your opinion was based on the "dieselgate" saga...
As has been said, big corporate business is a dirty game. Who will be caught next?

As a consumer, I think the only power we hold over big corporations is to keep our wallets nailed shut when they do something like what VW did. I won't buy a GM car either. Killing people while ignoring the ignition switch issue, which could have been fixed for very little money is reprehensible. So, they too won't get any money from me.
