Installing Ambient Lighting

Does anyone know if it would be possible for a dealer to install ambient lighting?

Everything is possible but it would be very expensive.

Ahhh I see. I spoke with two dealers in my area and I asked for a quote on how much it may cost to install ambient lighting. One service advisor didn't seem phased by the request and just said that she would email me with a quote later today. The other service advisor didn't think it would be possible because he's not sure the wiring would even be there, but that he would ask and see. He also said that he's never had this kind of request before.

I put in the request with another request on a quote for getting my wood trim replaced with the Black Ash. Since they'd have to work with the center console and doors, I figured that this would be the best time to ask them about the ambient lighting.

Wiring isnt there, you need all new wiring, a new center console, new door panel trims, a new rear view mirror, new foot well light units, as well as several hours worth of labour.

I actually wonder what the dealer quote will be. We should make a game out of it and see who can guess how much it will be quoted at or at least get close to it. I know that the price for parts for the center console is a little over $1,000 USD if it includes the clock and not counting labor. My guess is the entire job, including switching to Ash trim will be around: $2,800 USD.

Oh well my current interior trim is the burl walnut, so I do already have the clock. If one of the dealers comes back and says that it's possible to install everything, I am hoping that it comes out to no more than $2,500. That is something I'd be fine with. If it's more, then it'd be a little iffy but depends on how much more.

Good luck hopefully it comes out even less.

So it looks like it won't be possible to install ambient lighting. I was told by both dealers that they can't.

Not sure if this is of much help but I went through the same dilemma as my car didn't come equipped with ambient lighting as well. I bought a kit online from OSRAM which I link below. As far as the advert goes, this is fully plug and play with no modification required. It may not look as good as the factory ambient lights but I think it gets the job done.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to look into it. It may be the best alternative (and obviously much cheaper alternative) that I have. I just would like some lighting around the interior, especially under the footwells because it feels like I'm looking into a black pit when I look at the footwell on the passenger side. There is a tiny light down there, but it's so dim you can't see it.

Why look for a dealer? You can do it yourself for a very low price and still have a professional result.
Checkout www.shopblueshift.com i ordered ambient lighting from here for my w213 e200 that didnt have factory lighting. Im pretty happy with the results!
