Deer collision, Replacement headlight needed

Deer collision, Replacement headlight needed
Hi all, this is my first post here. I had a search but couldn't find any info.
I hit a deer last night, my family and I are ok, the car is surprisingly ok , can't say the same for the poor deer. ( i very nearly managed to stop, the brakes are amazing!!)
I'll get to the point , all it's done is cracked the headlight and split the front grill where the badge is. Just wondering it I can get a replacement front glass for the light or it it's a sealed unit and the whole thing needs replacing. I imagine the intelligent led lights will not be cheap.
Any info people have would be greatly recieved ,
Thanks

Your insurance wouldn't cover this?
Yes the whole headlight assembly would most likely need to be replaced if cracked...I've seen replacements (used) pop-up on eBay every now & then.

If you can find a front glass it can be replaced but it is not easy.
If I were you Id take a closer look on the headlight, the force needed to crack the glass is also more than enough to break the headlight mounts.

first off: thank you for killing the deer, we are over run by them and they have no predators.......at least where I live..........
they have become a really obnoxious animal as of late, rubbing on tree's to mark their scent and ruining the young tree in the process....
good luck with your repairs

The lens is PC plastic, glass is no longer used. It's very unlikely that you'll be able to get a replacement outer lens from MB. Also, there's normally a "crash" mount on the lamp that's meant to break in the event of an accident, but you probably can't tell what condition it is in without taking it apart.
I'd recommend just getting on OEM lamp through a reputable online parts supplier (hopefully with a discount).

Cheers, I thought as much. I didn't wanna go through the insurance for £500.
Can anyone tell me the part number of the grill star support on the front. The star comes off with a twist anti clockwise, and there's a plastic circular backing. If it were a w204 the part number would be a2078880260. But not sure they are the same

Hey MrTIFF.
i had a hit and run on my brand new C63 last week. someone backed into it and left Home depot. i brought it to an autobody and here is the part they gave me 2059068402 its the intelligent LED as you have. 2080 is the price but you can find on ECS and some other sites for around 1500.
the only issue with mine is that the clip broke. but yes they are VERY expensive

OMG, I'd have gone bloody mental if that was my car, let alone a brand new C63!!!! Some people are right.... Oops had to edit it cause it didn't like my language ha ha
.thanks for your help guys. Merc quoted £1051 for the light!!! Doh!!!
I've used the power of social media to see if I have any friends in the industry that can get it cheaper. So far I have 2 people getting me a price .
Thanks

yeah you have no idea. it happened 5 years ago to my SRT8 jeep in a parking lot. this time i even parked in the middle of nowhere far from anyone else. i was in there for quite a while picking out a new washer and dryer and when i came out and turned it on i got a collision assist malfunction. I thought it was built up salt and grime but when i got out to investigate i was sure shocked. 350 miles on it at that point. i nearly had a heart attack. i checked with the store and they did not have any cameras to see that area.
I installed a blackvue front and rear camera on sat and dropped the car at the auto body this morning. over 5 K in for the repair as the bumper light and fender need replacement.
good luck with the replacement

My excess is £500, so originally I didn't think it would be worth it. I forgot to protect my No Claims Discount, so with what I'll loose plus increase in premiums over next few years not sure it's worth it.
My contact came back and said it has to be programmed to the car as its the intelligent LED. Hence the price

We once bench-marked the Audi A7 lamps and those were $2500 each! ![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Does that price include the LED driver unit, or just the lamp assembly (no additional electronic driver(s))? You should be able to swap your driver(s) unit to the new lamp without "programming" it. Assuming those are separate parts (expensive), you should be able to save some money this way. I highly recommend this route if at all possible.

The guy I spoke to from parts made it sound like it wasn't available as a "shell" for me to swap my parts into. Only a whole unit. To be honest I find this a bit s**t , an very unnecessary . Surely people get cracked lights from stones???

Sympathy I hit deer a few months back thoroughly unpleasant experience but I did get a meal as a fellow motorist took the carcass to butcher and delivered a prepared leg to me.......sorry hyperion I find your response highly objectionable they are no more a problem than the billions of human beings on this planet and the destruction we and I inculde myself in this, cause.....global warming, deforestation the list is pretty long.
Anyway the point of my post I have distronic and when the grill was replaced (I have the traditional grill with a star on the bonnet) the whole system had to be recalibrated, I do also have the 360 camera. Sadly I think a trip to the dealership or authorised repairer will be needed. Fortunatley the headlamp survived in my case.....seems like i was very lucky though I still had an 820 euro bill for 3 plastic grills a number plate and number plate holder.....
Final comment I was also mightly impressed how little damage there actually was to the car given how close i was to the deer when I first saw it and the braking distance I had I suspect the car system kicked in too.

For reference, here is the C300 LED headlight diagram. The C250 should be very similar. I'd just make sure you're not buying all new drivers and cooling fans (5,9,12, etc). The dealer probably has it right, so don't worry too much!

The last poster makes a good point about the calibration, I forgot about all the sensors and do-dads on these new cars.
