Retrofit CarPlay in W205

If you all carefully observe the interior of each of these listed vehicles -
2016 A-Class
2016 B-Class
2016 CLA-Class
2016 CLS-Class
2016 E-Class Cabriolet
2016 E-Class Coupe
2016 GLA-Class
2016 GLE-Class
You will find that all of these use previous generation COMAND NTG5*1 system. This system has a numeric keypad and only a rotational knob to control the infotainment system.
The two glaring omissions in the aforementioned list are 2016 C-Class and 2016 S-Class, both of which use the most latest iteration, COMAND NTG5*2 system. This latest COMAND system gets rid of the numeric keypad and adds a touch pad. See attachment for distinction between COMAND NTG5 systems.
I have been doing a lot of research on this, there are some folks on russian fora who have retrofitted Carplay firmware, that has been released for the aforementioned vehicles, on some older vehicles that were shipped with COMAND NTG5*1 hardware. This clearly proves that once NTG5*2 firmware with Carplay comes out (possibly on 2017 E-Class), it can definitely be flashed on to any of the vehicles with NTG5*2 hardware including W205 cars.
Now I truly hope it doesn't come down to doing all the dirty coding and flashing work. I hope Mercedes takes care of its customers and just issues a software update for all of us and prove that they are "Best or Nothing".

Well, I have an update! I have recently talked with a shop that do extensive retrofits to mb cars and they confirmed that It is possible to retrofit carplay to w205 COMAND and Audio20 units. However they only recommend it with COMAND units. They made the first trials and going to apply it to w222 customer car next week.

Yes. Very disappointed and I hope Mercedes makes it up to their users by offering a retro kit soon.
The new Audi A4 ad is already mocking W205 on their latest ads.

Hello all,
I do not like how all of us who really wanted CarPlay in the W205 are quiet about it after getting their cars. We were sort of tricked into believing that we will be getting it, especially because Mercedes chose to demonstrate CarPlay for the first time in a Mercedes in a W205 in the video below.
I don't know exactly how many people were enthusiastic about CarPlay in the C-Class. I can just talk about the few owners I saw in this forum and myself. I am extremely disappointed because CarPlay was one of the main features that grabbed my attention. What forced me to make this post is that I recently saw that CarPlay is being offered in the A-Class, B-Class, and others, and surprisingly the outgoing E-Class.
I am certain that Daimler can find a solution to this and retrofit CarPlay for W205 owners. We cannot stay quiet about this and eat it up. Let us bring attention to Daimler so that we put an end to the waiting and miscommunication about CarPlay.

I think the icons on CarPlay look ugly compared to MB Comand style icons. Its a dated interface that only exists because phones are limited in their options.

The video looks very promising. Is this going to be a item that can be ordered (diy) or something that has to be performed at a car stereo shop?
Also any idea on pricing or if this could work without command ( without the Siri microphone I assume).

I bough a system from Naviks.. I had 3 different shops check it out so far.. We can for the life of me not get it to work perfectly... Screen settings cannot be adjusted so it just looks wrong...

Last year a guy was on the 221 forum as a sponsor taking pre-order deposits for an Apple Car Play module. He used the MB 205 Car Play video as a demo. The company was *******.
I asked some tech questions that made him uncomfortable. He deleted a 30 post thread with my questions and started a new one. I went after him in the new one. He deleted that thread.
I called the "company" to ask some questions, which turned out to be an automated phone system with a lot of "departments" all of which eventually got you to a guy and a cell phone.
Then I got a text from someone claiming to be the MB Admin (who I know) stating "these guys are legit, delete your thread. We need these guys to survive."
I told him if he was an Admin to delete the thread himself. Then he threatened a lifetime ban if I didn't comply. Then I told him to go f--- himself, and he got really mad.
MBWorld wanted to kill the sponsorship but needed proof first that someone at ******* sent the bogus text.
I reverse indexed the phone that sent the text and got an address. A public records search on that addressed produced a name. That name matched the name of the CEO (and apparent sole operator) of *******s per his Linkdin profile.
Automotive Brands killed his sponsorship but only at MBWorld. (They own a lot of car forums). I asked the admin, who's a really good guy, why AB didn't issue a blanket ban. He advised that AB liked to let the admins have autonomy.
Anyway, the guy went on to collect money from members at the Lexus forum, and probably others, and then of course disappeared. Google "******* Scam".
So the guy stayed pissed at me for a long time, and to get revenge he posted Craigslist ads listing my number saying I had a new IPhone 6 Plus for sale for $300. I got dozens of calls and texts. So round 2 to him.
Then I took his name, Linkdin headshot and phone number and created a profile for him on the nastiest gay dating/sex site I could find with a detailed list of all the stuff he was "up for." I let that cook for a week and he got about a hundred "flirts" so I'm sure his phone was really busy.
After that the Craigslist ads stopped. Anyway, a retrofit Apple Car Play module is a tough nut to crack for a 3rd party. That's because the manufacturer must install Apples CarIOS on their head unit. That's the companion operating system that interfaces with your IPhone.
So the motto is, number one, be skeptical of any 3rd party offering Car Play. It's usually just a cell phone screen mirror. Number two is if I bust your fraud, don't sell my phone on Craigslist if you're squeamish about random strange gay men calling you at all hours for a "Dirty Sanchez" or a "Rusty Trombone".

Yeah. So while the website gives the impression of a big US company and manufacturer, as best I can tell the whole thing is one just crazy Russian guy with a distributorship of some sort operating out of his home in NJ.

Standard dealer software updates won't bring Carplay/Android Auto/MirrorLink support to your COMAND unit because Xentry checks vedoc for SA codes for your VIN.
If it finds 14U/16U/17U it will put carplay etc firmware on. If not, it won't.
W205 NTG5 can be flashed to support 14U/16U/17U.
I am told MB have a retrofit part coming soon.
