Staggered setup compatible with C300 4matic

I have the base 17 wheels with 225 (front and rear) on my c300. I noticed that C400/400 or c300 with sports package comes in 18s with staggered setup (225 front and 245 rear). Will this staggered setup work on my c300? and why did Benz go with staggered setup on 18s and square setup on the 17s?

They went with square on the 17's for cost and simplicity. The 17's are the entry level wheel. Sports package and higher line models get the fancier staggered setup. Not only costlier for MB (although marginally) Staggered setup is more expensive and can be a hassle to the owner. Can't rotate tires or wheels front to rear, pricier performance tire, etc...

Yes, you can put the same size/offset of the staggered setup from the C300/C400 sport on your car. The C450 and C63 setups must be different in offsets/widths due to suspension arm and fender width differences.

Specifically, I think your C300 will take any of the following:

18x8.5 with an offset of 45 on the front and 18x9.5 offset 45 on the rear.
19x8.5 with an offset of 45 on the front and 19x9.5 offset 45 on the rear.
20x8.5 with an offset of 45 on the front and 20x9.5 offset 45 or 20x10 offset 50 on the rear

The offset can vary by a few mm here and there and still work. You have to sort out the correct tires for each application

Yeah with 4matic you can stagger as long as you keep any varience in the rolling diameter under 3% between front and rear axles. Rolling diameter is the size of the tire plus wheel.

There's a handy calculator at www.1010tire.com that lets you play around with various wheel, tire and sidewall ratios and reports back the exact rolling diameter variance. Or just go with the OEM values. You know those are safe.
