S205 automatic tailgate cover

So I've started to have a few issues with my s205 tailgate cover. It's supposed to retract automatically when the automatic tailgate rises and slide back when the tailgate lowers.

Now and then this doesn't happen and the cover stays in place, I have to tap it which then makes it retract violently.

Any thoughts on a fix other than the dealer? Grease on the tips of the roller or??

I had this happen in the first couple of days of ownership..
I recall the angle of the cover when at the base of the retractor (ie nearest the rear hatch) needs to be pointing down at a slight angle to engage fully with the retractor (rear pillar)...
Once engaged it worked fine... it also finds this angle fairly naturally once you know to allow for it...
Correspondingly there is a position you can set it so it does not raise and lower with the rear hatch...

Try this and see how you go... if still no luck then back to dealer... i wouldn't add lube.. shouldn't require it on thehood catch pate tips... (the mechaism in the pillar does but shouldn't yet...)

All the best...
