2016 C class
First Benz
Well..it is on order - a C class sports model with red leather. I ordered the rear wheel drive as snow is not going to be an issue with me. Question: After ordering I was researching rearwheel drive cars and mention was made of possibly impacting interior space. I sat in a rear wheel drive one - and the salesman confirmed - there is no loss of space. is this because the engine is mounted horizontally in the front?
Any general comments on this rear wheel drive vs AWD?

In a generic sense, a rear wheel drive car has a transmission tunnel that takes away from interior space because the power from the engine in the front needs to be connected to the drive wheels in the back. A front wheel car has the engine connected to the front wheels therefore no transmission tunnel.
The C Class is a traditional rear drive layout so yes it has a transmission tunnel. Optionally, the 4 motion version also drives the front wheels. There is no interior space difference in the two models as all of them have a transmission tunnel.
There is no front drive C Class with different interior space.

Relative to 4matic no.. same rear floor pan.. both have a rear drive shaft and both engines are orientatetd the same way.
Relative to a front wheel drive car yes, slightly.. they only have the exhaust to route under the rear floor center.. so it can be lower allowing a little more foot space, particularly for the rear center occupant.
