Grinding sound in reverse.
I searched but I did not find anyone else with a similar problem. I have a 2015 C300 4matic. If I turn the steering wheel all the way in either direction while in reverse I hear a grinding sound coming from the front. At first I thought it was the tires rubbing on the wheel well however it does not occur when I'm going forward. It only occurs in reverse. Does anybody else have this problem?

I've not heard grinding in mine. But I do get scraping of tyres due to max angle.

If not tyres i would be looking at drive shaftes (4matic) and or front diff..
I would have the car up on a lift and enageg reverse and observe underside for noise when driveline is dynamic but vehicle is stationary..
This will isolate driveline vs wheels / tyres etc.
Then i'd be getting under it and looking to track down LHS vs RHS or if its center.. (drive shaft outers vs inner and trans.. )
OR if under warranty just let the MB techs figure it out..

Well I took my car to the dealership yesterday since it is still under warranty, and they called today to let me know that it needs a new drive shaft. The car is only 1 year old so it was either a defective part or an incorrectly installed part.

I have the same issue with my 450. I took it in but could not duplicate for the service advisor. I am going to have them check the drive shaft.

Did it fix it?
did the new drive shaft replacement fix this issue? I have a 2016 C300 4Matic that does this and it feels and sounds awful. They told me it’s “fine”.

I’ve had the same issue for about 2 years now. Every time I brought it to MB, they couldn’t duplicate it. The one time I was able to do it myself with a MB tech in the car, they told me it’s gravel under my tires 🙄 Fast forward to April ‘21 and my steering malfunctions in a Home Depot parking lot and it gets towed to MB b/c my steering it completely locked up. My rack and pinion malfunctioned. After they replaced that, I have not had the grinding issue happen again once. It’s been over a week with this repair

Oh.. weird.. I thought I was the only person with this problem. From what I found out, on the C450/C43 the suspension is hard and takes allot of hits from the roads. I don't mind doing things on my car so I thought it was a wheel bearing. I made a video on Youtube with the sound I was trying to solve. I replaced the bearing but that did not solve the problem. I started to looked up the front end of our cars and noticed that there is a center bearing which connects to the CV shafts. This is something I could not do myself as I don't have a lift so I brought it to Mercedes and they found out that it was the center bearing that had gone bad. The wheel bearing cost me $250 or something like that and just my time to install it.
The center shaft bearing replacement also replaced one of my CV shafts as it was also showing wear on it. Once they changed the center and CV shaft, everything seems find and the grinding sound has gone away.
